Offsite storage in Cleveland, OH

A couple who are good friends of ours just moved to Cleveland. They are living initially in a high-rise apartment complex downtown. Their wine storage cabinet, which they moved out from California, does not fit in the building elevator, and so they need to figure out another arrangement for their wine.

Does anyone know of a wine storage facility in or near downtown Cleveland?

Thanks a bunch.

Chris,

To my knowledge there are not any storage facilities in Cleveland. I looked far and wide for a place before I bought a second wine cooler a couple of years ago and came up with nothing.

They could rent a regular storage locker with an electrical plug and put their wine cabinet in it. Voila! Instant offsite storage!

Thanks, Robert. That is very helpful to know.

Chuck, I thought of that, but I didn’t know if regular storage places had electricity, and if so, whether you could use that much power. I guess they could call around and find out. They would also need one of those remote cellar alarms, in case the unit stopped working during the summer.

They could buy a vintage keeper, they come unassembled and aren’t bad at all if you don’t need to showcase the unit.

Some time ago, before retiring but thinking about it, I explored opening a wine storage facility. There were (are) none in Cleveland; I talked to people who had opened facilities in other cities. In the end, I could not put together a business plan that worked. So I’m pretty sure there are still no stoirage facilities in Cleveland. I ened up buying/building a cellar in my basement.

I started keeping a tally of other wine storage facilities and I came across one in Cleveland about a year ago, Security Self Storage. They feature wine storage at their Westlake facility. I hope they have room for your friend! More info here: http://www.securityselfstorageltd.com/wine-storage

If they’re full, another option is Grand Central Storage in Ferndale, MI. It’s a bit of a huff, I know… more info here: http://grandcentral.biz/

Best of luck to your friend!

Wow, thanks Patrick.

There is a moving facility on the west side that has temp controlled lockers. It is the one Patrick mentioned. i looked into at one point as a temporary solution while moving. It was expensive and they did not have big lockers. IIRC, they held at most 10 cases each. It would be about 25 minutes from downtown.

BTW, if you like, please give them my name if they want to meet some wine people in Cleveland. Be glad to invite them to something or other.
