That’s usually my goal. Dry in January. Sometimes make it to President’s Day weekend. Weekends only after that. Rarely works the way I think after late March/early April. I keep saying I’d like to add another dry month in the late Fall but haven’t done it. It would be meaningful for weight management.
Blind tasting on the 3rd, with some very cool wines, including a stunning Egon Muller Auslese 2007. But taking some time off now, if not the whole month. This not entirely terrible 0% ABV is helping sweeten the pill.
I started yesterday too - exactly one month from surgery, and my dry spell well carry well into Feb. during recovery. I already miss wine ![]()
How is the RS on that one?
“Giving up smoking is the easiest thing in the world. I know that because I’ve done it thousands of times.”
– Mark Twain
“If the world comes to an end, I want to be in Cincinnati, because it’s always twenty years behind the times.”

Hell - I had C spine fusion and drank bourbon that night! (My medical opinion is not to recommend that - nor should you make any important financial decisions in the first 24 hours.) I was good and did not drive for over 24 hours!
No wine, no problem.
I ate the damn salad tonight. Truth be told, it was pretty good. I’ve been making a dijon vinaigrette - heavy on the dijon - and had just enough to go with the tinned salmon from Trader Joe’s.
It has warmed here in Indiana, and I think the bat in the attic woke up. Good thing I’m redoing the bathroom and there’s a hole where the old bathroom fan used to be. Ugh.
Speaking of bats, here’s a well-polished song from Ozzy Osbourne (RIP). If Ozzy had kept on touring he might have lived forever.
The (long) classical break starting at 2:48 is quite interesting…
Stay dry, folks.
Around 33g/l I believe. I think this does help, and the vacuum distillation at 28 °C helps to keep a lot of the character of the wine. It’s not a bad drink, and the price is hardly exorbitant (€7)…
2nd time around for the same procedure, not taking any chances this time.
One of my favorite ways to manage the boredom and lack of stimulus is to plan a short trip with wonderful food/wine for when the dry/diet is done.
Day 6 and feeling good. If folks are looking for something to scratch the Champagne itch, the Copenhagen Sparkling Tea is worth seeking out, especially the LYSEGRØN.
Doesn’t exactly taste like wine, but it has a fine mousse, delicate florals and a surprising amount of depth/complexity. Most importantly, it’s deliciously morish.
The one I had a couple nights ago was Copenhagen Sparkling Tea BLÅ. It drank kind of like a mead. Very pretty honey on the nose and palate, especially depending on the shape of the stem.
I could see it as a base for a cocktail or as a brunchy Mimosa substitute, but I don’t think I would rebuy it to sip by itself.
ya BLA is my least favorite of the lineup
My wife and I went out to dinner with another couple this past Saturday. They ordered cocktails and I decided to order a NA cocktail so we could all toast to a happy and healthy new year. It confirmed my usual thoughts about NA wine/beer/cocktails. Just not worth the calories/carbs/sugar for me.
More like BLÅH amirite?
I’m working on an NA riff on a Sidecar. Will report back.
Definitely interested in that NA Sidecar idea.
Diet Coke with lemon, lime, and a splash of grenadine does the trick. Unless one refuses to drink diet soda.
Yeah…that’s not something I’d be into. Haven’t had a soda in at least 20 years.
Would you believe I’ve never in my life drunk a soda? Nothing to do with health, I’ve just always hated them. Cola in particular. I don’t like anything carbonated, actually, except champage, and I didn’t even like that until about 10 years ago.
Fascinating; I wouldn’t survive without energy drinks. I like Coke Zeros, especially the cherry variety, but only get them occasionally at gas stations etc.
