Official Costco Thread

I haven’t tried the “official” ‘15 Barbi Brunello (or probably any Barbi in the last 3-4 years), so don’t know if it’s inferior or not. This Kirkland version is definitely a solid and typical Brunello in a savory and linear style and good value. I’d love to get the opinion of others on it, it just wasn’t something that struck me as exciting in the way the Fontodi was. I feel similarly about Caparzo’s Brunello–a great restaurant wine, and good value at $30 retail, but not exciting enough to buy for home consumption (although I did buy a bunch of half-bottles in '15 just because they were available and I get very good utility out of half-bottles of Tuscan wines)…

Park Meadows Mall (Lone Tree, Colorado)

  • Veuve Clicquot (2008) La Grande Dame 750ml, $139.99 (-10.25%|-$16.00 < AppleJack Wine & Spirits)

2016 Domaine de Saint-Guirons for $26 at the Sodo Seattle store today. Bought 4. Anyone had this? A Pauillac from the Grand Puy Lacoste team.

anyone tried the Kirkland Signature Ribiera del Duero yet?

Yes. Nothing special at all.

2015 Vaso Cabernet Sauvignon (2nd wine of Dana Estate) at West Plano and Southlake for $64.99

Had one this week, and it is quality and worth every penny.

thanks!

My Favorite Neighbor 2017 at Oregon Costco’s for 49.99

It feels like Barbi had grapes they might have put into a Rosso and saw more value in producing a ‘Brunello’ for Kirkland. Agree with some of previous comments about this being a solid ‘restaurant’ made Brunello. For the enthusiasts out there you’ll likely reach for something with more backbone however it’s a solid value.

Also have the ME Sauv blanc in Charlotte - brilliant wine.

Would take the Fontodi over the '15 Kirkland [Barbi] BdM. Did you buy the half-bottles at Costco as well? The only time I see any 375s is around x-mas and it’s normally giant producers (Kim Crawford and Mionetto prosecco the last two years).

No, I got the 375ml Caparzo’s online. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen 375s at Costco, even around X-mas (when they typically bring in the same 3-4 large format wines–Cambria Pinot, La Crema Chardonnay, a low-rent Banfi (Centine or Col di Sasso), Freemark Abby Cab or Merlot, and Kendall Jackson Grand Reserve Chardonnay).

Thanks for the heads up. Picked up a few of these ($67.99 here) and a Fontodi Vigna del Sorbo at the Houston Galleria location.

I also picked up the 2016 Fontodi ‘Vigna del Sorbo’ CCR at the Dallas location for $87.99 (or possibly $89.99, not positive)…About $10-$20 under ‘market price’ and by all accounts a great wine, although I usually prefer Cepparello for the same price or a few $ less…

John, did they have anything else interesting?

Nothing new/exciting. I will say I’ve been enjoying the hell out of the $23 2009 Beronia Rioja Gran Reserva. Every time I drink a bottle, I go back for 3-4 more. Easy drinking, crowd pleasing…

I have been avoiding Costco in 2020, but curious if anyone will see the 2020 Costco Wine Advent calendar and can share what’s in it?

Not direct experience, but here you go!

My costco had both wine Advent calendar boxes in stock when I was there last week.

Has anyone seen Domaine Carneros Brut at the DFW Costco’s? I picked some up during a road trip in Colorado but couldn’t find any when I got back to DFW.

Also saw the Dana Vaso Cab for 67.99 at Fort Worth and now seeing the large format bottles coming out for the holidays. No wine Advent calendar but beer one is out. Hoping to find the 3L Kirkland Prosecco here too.

I found some 375ml’s of Valdicava 2013 Brunello at the Costco in La Quinta, CA. Pretty cool, as I haven’t seen any 375mls of any good wines at Costco before.
