Ernest Vineyards is excited to participate in our 2nd BerserkerDay! This year, we’ve decided to highlight 3 Single Vineyard Edaphos by Ernest wines from Mendocino County with unreal savings and shipping on us for our BerserkerDay offers.
JUST ADDED! We’re sweetening the deal for you! Each order will be entered into a raffle for a special, Ernest Labeled, French produced, Brut Champagne! All previous orders will be entered in the raffle as well.
This 100% Chardonnay, a true Brut Champagne, signifies not only Ernest Vineyards’ ethos but also a beautifully crafted testament to our collaborative spirit and pursuit of excellence in winemaking.
Our Blanc de Blancs delivers precise yet subtle aromas of green apples and minerals with a touch of brioche. This subtlety continues to the palate, which delivers a very bright and refreshing sensation alongside secondary flavors of unripe peaches and nectarines. This Champagne exudes charm and elegance all while honoring the fine balance between fruit, acidity, minerality, and effervescence.
Edaphos.
The Greek word Edaphos translates as dirt, soil, or ground; we chose this word because these wines are of their place. At Edaphos, we produce unique, small-lot, single-vineyard bottlings of remarkable varietals in California. Our vineyards are located throughout Sonoma and Mendocino counties.
We start with sustainable, organic, and biodynamic farming in the vineyards, continue with minimal intervention in the cellar. These wines are made with intention and with curiosity; we encourage you to try them in the same light.

A bit about the wines…
2021 Alder Springs Vineyard Petite Arvine
This being our 5th vintage working with Petite Arvine from the inimitable Alder Springs Vineyard. The new block is producing some fruit and the berries are larger and later ripening with a broader palate profile. This allows for us to pick the older vines a bit earlier, capturing all the herbaceous and floral qualities of this wine with a high level of acid still intact. Neutral puncheon as always that now sees a full year on lees to slowly ferment on native yeasts and a long, slow malolactic conversion. This is our best version to date.
The aromatics on this vintage are specific, evoking stone fruit and Alpine forest vibrancy. The palate follows with a fruit forward attack flowing through with both weight and verve. There are hints of minerals, melons, and pears. A palate ranging from honeydew, sour apples, sweet oranges, and herbs.
2022 Poor Ranch Vineyard Syrah
Poor Ranch sits above Hopland on the western slope of the Mayacamas Mountain Range. The Poor family has been stewards of this land since the 1800 ’ s. They farm without Irriagtion and are certified organic by CCOF. The Syrah comes from the east side of a block that was planted nearly 30 years ago. The rough hewn Redvine soil series retains just enough water to keep the plants in production while allowing for concentrated flavors.
The 2022 Poor Ranch Syrah exhibits a profound and enchanting shade of dark purple, enriched by crimson and blueish hues that intermingle gracefully. The aromas unfold, generously weaving together a lavish array of succulent blackberry, ripe black plum, and the alluring essence of cassis, each note contributing to the wine’s multi-layered aromatic profile. Delicate yet striking mineral-driven elements are unveiled reminiscent of pencil lead, and crushed gravel. Medium tannins extend a velvety texture on the palate, while the influence of toasty nuances from seasoned barrels introduces intricate dimensions. This 22 Poor Ranch Syrah stands as a testament to the elegance and the untapped potential of the varietal from this mountain site.
2022 Trimble Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
The Trimble Vineyard, just east of Hopland, CA was planted in 1941, or 1942, depending on which member of the Trimble family you ask. The old sprawl plantings of head pruned vines are certified organic through CCOF and entirely dry farmed on well drained, loamy soils. The Mediterranean climate, provides warm days and cool nights, culminating in a later harvest that comes in just ahead of the fall frost.
The freshness that greets you with the preliminary aromas of this wine makes you love it even before you taste it! Our 2022 Trimble Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon has a great depth of color that goes from deep ruby to garnet. The fruit profile is wild in nature but really focused and polished. It is an exuberant example of Cabernet Sauvignon that can only be explained by the specific terroir of this vineyard. Spicy notes of black peppercorn, and damp earth, are mixed in with an abundance of wild blackberries and juicy black plums. On the palate is it as exciting as the aromas suggested it would be, also showing a great balance of acidy, fruit, and ripe soft tannins.
Complimentary Shipping on all orders!

The Story of Ernest
Erin Brooks & Todd Gottula founded Ernest Vineyards in 2012 to craft wines of integrity and restraint from the West Sonoma Coast (the now newest AVA). Ernest focuses on cool-climate, marine-influenced and undiscovered vineyards and produces small-lot wines that offer a sense of place in Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
In 2014, Edaphos was launched as a place to explore, to learn…and to have some fun. These wines reflect curiosity in concrete, carbonic and whole cluster fermentations with varietals that are considered “alternative” in California.
In 2018, Joseph Ryan joined as Winemaker bringing focus and finesse to the low-intervention method and style of Ernest wines. The naturally low alcohol and vibrant acidity of each vintage reflect the cool-climate nature of the overall program at Ernest Vineyards.
In case you were wondering, yes, there was a man named Ernest. He was an entrepreneur, a risk-taker and a role model for his grandson, Todd Gottula. Today, the “Ernest” in our name stands for more than one man. It’s about integrity in the fruit we use and the people we know. It’s about restraint, about how ego drives nothing we do.
At a total of less than eight thousand cases annually, Ernest Vineyards remains a small company and the team of nine are daily involved in sharing their story, wines, and continued mission, to Further Beauty.
