Thank you, all, for a fantastic 2026 VinDependence Day!

Kurt and the Bohème Team

This is fascinating! LOVE some old gnarled Zin vines - how amazing you got the opportunity to harvest these, and only four barrels. What’s the wine like?

Todd:

Agree, it was a great honor to help farm this storied, old Zinfandel!!

Planted 1874, I understand Craighead “ancient vines” might be the oldest Zinfandel vineyard in Sonoma County, but don’t know for sure. Like other vineyards of the era, has other varieties intermixed, e.g. Alicante Bouchet & Carignane, though the clear majority of vines are Zin.

Expression: The wine is totally dry (zero RS) and fermented to 14.5% alc. *I adore the bright acidity and brilliant high-tone brambly red fruits. The density I’d characterize as medium with wonderful, dark color and low VA @ 0.6 g/L. Good as the wine is, I’m mesmerized by the many hundreds of hands to have tended these vines over 1.5 centuries!! :raising_hands:

Berserker Dignitary Tom Hill reviewed last October:

“Very dark color; beautiful OV/Zin/dusty light pencilly/oak strong blackberry/boysenberry/Zin/very spicy bit peppery lovely spicy nose; fairly tart/tangy strong blackberry/peppery/Zin/quite spicy light pencilly/oak quite dusty/OV complex flavor w/ ample/brisk tannins; very long/linger structured very spicy Zin finish that tracks flavor; not as rich/lush as Carlisle/Bedrock but very structured & very spicy; reminds a lot of the old Ravenswood WoodRd-Beloni Zin under JoelPeterson; needs another 2-5 yrs at least; a beautiful OV Zin at a very good price.”

Sounds perfect for @Robert.A.Jr !

Mr Jones: Thx for your kind words! Agreed, '21 Stuller is a beauty - I agree with your notes of elegant and brooding. I think you’ll find the '23 vintage has a bit more tension and energy with slightly brighter fruits. All of the elegance. Prost!

Ms Char: Many thanks for your support! I’m equally excited for you to try the wines. We’ll be in touch re. shipping soon.
