The Joseph B. Board Assistant Professor of Environmental Policy at Union College will be coming south for the championship banner raising against the Lebrons and he would like to celebrate and toast them in advance with a champagne luncheon. I am checking on locations, but it will be within 20 or 30 blocks of MSG, and will end by about 5 pm so we have time to get into the World’s Most Famous Arena. He has established the following rules:
- Everyone attending must bring a really good bottle of champagne.
- NO CELTICS FANS or SIXER fans are allowed.
- Spurs fans must sit at the chiidren’s table, which will be 7’4" from the main table.
- Everyone must present their champagne, stand up, and name a member of the Knicks who was on the roster in the year of the vintage - so NV doesn’t work unless it is Krug, which will be allowed as an exception. Since the professor has obtained a ticket to the game for me, I am considering getting a 1947 bottle, currently at auction, since the Knicks first season was 1946/47. From the first roster, I will name Ossie Schectman (who scored the first points in league history) or Sidney Hertzberg (probably went to school in Brooklyn with my father).
This will be at 2 pm on Tuesday, October 20th and we will be done by 5 pm because we have tickets to the opening game of the Knicks versus the Lebron Carpetbaggers. If you are interested, post below with your bubbly and I will add you to the list. At Bobby Van’s on 54th street because I have more flexibility with numbers there.
Attendance and Wines:
The Joseph B. Board Assistant Professor of Environmental Policy (aka Salil) - 2006 Comtes de Champagne.
Jay Hack - 2006 Pol Roger Churchill
Erez Lenchner - TBD - but he only owns bubbly, so it could be good.
Gavin F - Some random Pegau Cuvee Reserve. Why? Because Salil makes the rules and he wants to taste it, and we need something to drink with the entree.
Gil Bauer - 2002 Dom Perignon
Rebecca Schenk - (probably) 2006 Charles Ellner Champagne Brut Prestige.
Juan Soto - TBD
Mike Brooks - TBD
