NZ Sauvignon Blanc - Recommendations?

Regularly $11.99 here at binnys in Chicago (I think 11.99 right now.

I agree screaming value. This and Wairau River (also discounted down to $11.99) are the value plus. Family owned wineries making Sauvignon at scale (but not mega corporate scale) with just better intensity and flavor than the mass plonk.

Yes this is not the Kim Crawford brand of over a million cases. $11.99 great price.

Just had a glass of the 2021 Loveblock and it’s lovely - bright, zippy, citrusy.

Love Block and Allan Scott were my Costco go to’s last year.

Greywacke and Dog Point at the high end. Allan Scott at a fantastic QPR.

Not a lot to add from previous comments, but one I’ve been impressed with recently is Zephyr. Family owners single vineyard SB from Dillons Point, which is an important Wairau valley sun region. Sub $17 or so here.

Is Dog point 94 better because of grape selection or Bea cause it’s aged in oak?

Totally different. Oak aged, quite funky with age. Not typical.

Hmm, bought one but think I’ll prefer the regular.

Thanks!

This is an interesting thread to bring back. Not a popular topic around here, and not for me personally, but that isn’t to say there’s nothing of interest. The best I’ve had by far are Greywacke Wild (much better than the regular Greywacke bottling) and Cloudy Bay. There was some discussion of how good Cloudy Bay is a while back, and it really is. The proof is in how well it ages. Greywacke Wild is more subdued, mineral, and complex than probably any other NZ SB that I’ve had. I’ve had most of the others mentioned here and still stand by these 2 as my top choices. Honorable mention to Craggy Range, although several others are probably comparable.

give Cloudy Bay Te Koko a whirl, it’s a fascinating representation to the the grape and region.
