NYC - Wine Dinner Sparkling Wines: "Come quickly, I am tasting the stars!"

When : Monday, July 28th, 5:30 sit down and do their blind white wine flight. The tasting dinner will commence at 6pm. I’ll get there just after 5pm if anyone gets out early; we will order something off their menu.

Requirements : For this dinner you will bring at least two bottles of sparkling wine. One of them must be proper Champagne, the other must be a sparkling wine, not from Champagne—anywhere else in the world is acceptable. One of the bottles must be over $100. As always… there are exceptions to the rules… if you feel like bringing two bottles of Champagne, one has to be something incredible (Salon/Krug Single Vineyard, etc).

Where : Corkbuzz Chelsea Market (75 9th Avenue) new location

How : When you arrive, please ensure the wine bottles are concealed (in a bag or aluminum foil or something to cover them) and properly chilled. The target amount of people for this dinner will be 10-12, once you go above 12 it can get too unruly, and there won’t be enough wine for each person—we’d like to keep this as a “mostly peaceful tasting.” Each person will pass their bottles around and the group will taste them and attempt to determine what they are. Once everyone has tried them we will guess the region, variety and price. The wines will be revealed each time after the round of guessing. How formal or casual your guesses are will totally be up to you; WSET, CMS, or just winging it are all fine…

Cost : The cost is expected to be around $150. This includes free corkage, and gratuity. They provide all the stems, excellent service and great food.

Why : Because sparkling wine, especially Champagne, is amazing.

Gee, I don’t know.

About 6 bottlers of 2006 PR Churchill
1 Kuzama Grande Dame
1 Krug NV Grande Cuvee
1 2006 Comtes
and about 10 or 15 bottles that I have bought in the past few years that are not in CT. But why should I bring them to this. You know. Pearls before swine and all that.

does this mean you want to be added to the waitlist?

I do not know if I can make it. I am hosting a major family even that weekend that may involve 40+ people and lots of cooking on my part, so I may not want to travel to the big city on Monday,. You can put me on the waiting list and we will see what develops. I have a bottle of NV bubbly from the US that dates from my son’s Bar MItzvah. He is 39 years old!
