NYC - September 24th -- Wine Dinner -- Blind Tasting -- Bordeaux vs non Bordeaux BDX Blends

When : Wednesday, September 24th, 5:30 sit down and do their blind white wine flight. The tasting dinner will commence at 6pm. I’ll get there just after 5pm if anyone gets out early; we will order something off their menu.

Requirements : For this dinner you will bring at least two bottles of wine. One of them must be from Bordeaux, the other one must be a Bordeaux style wine from outside of France. At least one of the bottles must be valued at more than $150.

Where : Corkbuzz Chelsea Market (75 9th Avenue) new location

How : When you arrive, please ensure the wine bottles are concealed (in a bag or aluminum foil or something to cover them) and at the proper cellar temperature. The target amount of people for this dinner will be 10-12, once you go above 12 it can get too unruly, and there won’t be enough wine for each person—we’d like to keep this as a “mostly peaceful tasting.” Each person will pass their bottles around and the group will taste them and attempt to determine what they are. Once everyone has tried them we will guess the region, variety and price. The wines will be revealed each time after the round of guessing. How formal or casual your guesses are will totally be up to you; WSET, CMS, or just winging it are all fine…

Cost : The cost is expected to be around $150. This includes free corkage, and gratuity. They provide all the stems, excellent service and great food.

Why : Because Bordeaux is awesome.

Some people have chatted me ahead of time, so saving a few extra spots for them to confirm their availability.

sounds like a yes

Ah! would have loved to make this one. But I have a wine event that evening. I will be pouring Burgundy instead…'59 Latour is still top wine of this year for me. Looking forward to reading the notes.

We did this many years ago on the upper west side in the pre-politically correct days. It was called Bordeaux and Bimbos. There were too many wine dinners with no women so in order to attend, you had to bring a non-Bordeaux Bordeaux blend and a woman of drinking age. My wife was unavailable so I enlisted a friend of mine who owned a software data conversion company. I remember meeting Keith Levenberg’s wife at the event.

I’ll join the waitlist!
