When : Monday, March 24th, 5:30pm sit down and do their blind white wine flight. The tasting dinner will commence at 6pm. I’ll get there at 5pm if anyone gets out early; we will order a bottle of Champagne off their menu.
Requirements : This dinner is about great wines under 10 years old—nothing older than 2016 vintage. We’re going to go specific on this one, 2 bottles, one has to be ~$100 and one has to be over $200. This is the time to showcase your newer SQN, Cult Napa, big Barossa, big Super Tuscans, cult Amarone, etc. Elegant, refined, delicate, well aged and Burgundian need not apply here folks. We’re going for young, high octane, full bodied, high alcohol… bring on the tannins! So… for this dinner, please bring 2 bottles of wine (feel free to bring more).
Where : Corkbuzz 13 e 13th street (Union Square)
How : When you arrive, please ensure the bottles are concealed (in a bag or aluminum foil or something to cover them) and at the correct cellar temperature. I highly recommend opening these bottles earlier in the day to give some air. The target amount of people for this dinner will be 11-12, once you go above 12 it can get too unruly, and there won’t be enough wine for each person—we’d like to keep this as a “mostly peaceful tasting.” Each person will pass their bottles around and the group will taste them and attempt to determine what they are. Once everyone has tried them we will guess the region, variety and price. The wines will be revealed each time after the round of guessing. How formal or casual your guesses are will totally be up to you; WSET, CMS, or just winging it are all fine…
Cost : The cost is expected to be around $150. This includes free corkage, and gratuity. They provide all the stems, excellent service and great food.
Why : Because it’s going to be awesome…
