NYC – February 24th Blind Wine Tasting Dinner – The Rodney Dangerfield Edition

“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses of underappreciated vitis vinifera, yearning to breathe free.”

When : Monday, February 24th, 5:30 sit down and do their blind white wine flight. The tasting dinner will commence at 6pm. I’ll get there at 5pm if anyone gets out early; we will order a bottle of Champagne off their menu.

Requirements : This dinner is about underappreciated regions and underappreciated grapes that should get more respect: what does that mean? Well, you can interpret, but I’ll tell you what it doesn’t mean: no Napa Cab, no Bordeaux, no P/C from Cote d’Or… here’s your opportunity to showcase a region you care about, but isn’t in the common lexicon for the average drinker… time to bring out your Paolo Bea Cerrete, your Bass Philip or your back vintage Chateau Musar Blanc. You could also bring wines that are from a famous region, but lesser appreciated varieties… So… for this dinner, please bring 2-3 bottles of wine; either from a region you love but is underappreciated, and/or a grape that is lesser known/appreciated. Can be sparkling, red, white, rose, even orange (Phil!)! If you have a question on value, feel free to ping me, but at least one needs to be at least $100 value.

Where : Corkbuzz 13 e 13th street (Union Square)

How : When you arrive, please ensure the bottles are concealed (in a bag or aluminum foil or something to cover them) and at the correct temperature (whites chilled, reds at cellar temp). The target amount of people for this dinner will be 11-12, once you go above 12 it can get too unruly, and there won’t be enough wine for each person—we’d like to keep this as a “mostly peaceful tasting.” Each person will pass their two to three bottles around and the group will taste them and attempt to determine what they are. Once everyone has tried them we will make some guesses. The wines will be revealed each time after the round of guessing. How formal or casual your guesses are will totally be up to you; WSET, CMS, or just winging it are all fine…

Cost : The cost is expected to be around $150. This includes free corkage, and gratuity. They provide all the stems, excellent service and great food.

Why : Because it is time to show some love to regions that don’t get no respect.

Perfect opportunity for that random semisweet Romanian rose wine I somehow brought back from Brasov :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

A bit too far to confirm I’m 100% available but for now my calendar is open so count me in.
Best regards,
Brian

This sounds super fun. Really wish I could join, but I will be busy with my move.

Sad to miss it - maybe I can give someone a bottle to be enjoyed in my memory. Announcement of my send-off party coming soon.

I see you hit your number. I would be game if you do this again.

I collect the types of wines that you are talking about, and rarely have an opportunity to open them.

you are in… we always start a few above the limit because there are always drops… see you in February!

Great!

Please put me at least on the waiting list. May I bring 10 wines? It lets me clean out the orphans in my cellar that I bought because the rep who was pouring the wine was gorgeous. I have a few others that qualify for the over $100 category, but no, the 1908 Madeira is off limits.

you are in, one more after you will be wait list. and yes, 10 wines from you are fine

Are you telling him 10 with the hope that there’s 1 that’s drinkable? :joy:

Very excited for that!

In, if there is room. -BB

in… waitlist going forward
