I have a serious tooth issue that will require treatment and antibiotics for the next two weeks so I can nether eat solid food nor drink, so I am out. Please give my spot to someone on the waiting list.

Feel better Jay, see you at the next one.

I talked to Peter and I’ll respectfully bow out. 16 people and 32 bottles (plus bubbles and blind tasting and the inevitable 3rd bottle someone brings)is a bit much for midweek. I’ll join another time.
Best regards,
Brian

OK folks get excited. Looks like we will have 15 people.

We are going to try to move quickly, and with Jay not coming (get better soon!), the level of pontification will be lower; I’m confident my cat herding skills will be up to the task to make sure we get through everything before they start putting the chairs on the tables and mopping up.

Remember, blind tasting, no cheating. We will go first with those who brought two white wines, then one of each, then those who brought 2 reds can volunteer to go when they feel their wines will show best in the order.

Looking forward to it!

I hope you feel better soon! Rotten luck for this event.

If anyone wants to bring a double magnum of Mouton to stand in for Jay that would be appropriate.

I am so thrilled that you all recognize the importance of my attendance to the extent that even when I am not able to attend, I am the principal subject of discussion.

I have to offer my apologies for the Irish exit last night, but I can’t help myself.

Thanks to all for bringing wonderful wines. We had a great lineup!

For me, the WsOTN were the 96 Ducru-Beaucaillou (paired blind against a 19 La Croix Ducru-Beaucaillou, which was a lot of fun), the 16 Chavy Puligny Montrachet, the 09 Tyrrell Vat 1, and the 05 Chave Hermitage. I could go on, but 4 is already too many for this

As always, very much looking forward to the next one.

Great night everyone, as always, I’m always impressed with the wines everyone brought. I really like this format and will definitely repeat it. I was shocked there was not one red Burgundy (I almost brought), and only one Bordeaux flight.

WOTNs: 05 Chave Hermitage, 16 Chavly PM 1er, 96 Ducru, the Conterno Nervi Molsino, 99 Yquem… am I forgetting one?

Best Pairing for entertainment/education had to be the Tyrell Hunter Valley Semillon… I’ve probably only had this 3 times in my life before, and having these reminds you of all the little places in the world that make these types of wines that no where else does. I kept the older one all night and it continued to evolve. So interesting.

I felt pretty good calling Don Melchor and Adrianna White Bones by producer/vineyard… that was fun, but also, in a region flight, where there is some info, you can sort of guess a little. It’s also equally humbling when right before you call a Bordeaux a Napa Cab instead… that’s the fun of it!

Next event is June 2nd, post will go up soon. Preference will be given to previous participants (this is new).
