NYC 5/15

Was a terrific to meet Michael and some new folks and reacquaint with some old ones. Fantastic wine, company was stellar. Thanks Dan and Rodrigo, the venue and food were excellent for this type of get together.

Julie sent me the photos and looking back this was extremely varied and eye opening. Hard to pick clear favorites with so many enjoyable offerings.

I think I thought the taupenot merme was tight. I did quite like the cossard. 19 is such an enjoyable vintage right now.

The MSD was a 2019er Frederic Cossard brought by Henrik. The Pax was the ‘Rhone’ blind we requested from Jin towards the end of the evening when someone commented they were surprised there was no Rhone opened.

The Taupenot Merme Mazoyeres was my bring and I think you are spot on Michael. I should have pre-tasted and decanted but I’m not sure even a decant would bring out the best in this stage. 08 GC red may still be a hold. Had a lovely Giroud 07 Charmes Chambertin at the Mike on Tour event a couple of weeks ago and it was open for business.

The 13 Rousseau CDLR was really showing its chops despite being a younger GC. It was downright delicious and kept me wanting on how great can this wine be in a few years. My WOTN. Thanks Michael. I somehow missed your 2000 Amiot CDLR.

You didn’t miss much with the Amiot; it was pretty advanced.

You know; I’ve been hearing for awhile that the Rousseau CDLR has been improving since 2010, although the older ones certainly aren’t bad. I have a pretty sizable holding of 15-17 Rousseau CDLR which I’m quite happy to have.
