Non Grand Cru closest to Romanee Conti??

And with hindsight, Lamarche’s style is very different to DRC, so you are best finding out who owns the Richebourg vines that are right next to La Romanée-Conti…

Paul…I am anxious. Could you please finish the joke flirtysmile newhere

The Aristocrats! [snort.gif]

I’m an enormous fan of Louis Michel’s wines, so I’m not counting him out, I think that GR has grossly improved with the new winemaking regime at Lamarche.

There is severe bottle variation with their 96s, which I attest to some often strong bret character. I’ve had 2 good bottles total out of 14 or 15 (mixed of all cuvees), and still have a Grands Eche left.

I know, but I think it was b/c someone was looking for value and extreme satisfaction. It wasn’t always, Henri Lamarche was a cheap skate and didn’t want GR to be GC b/c he didn’t want to pay the extra tax. He was fine with Premier Cru status.

Drank the 2006 a few days ago. It was probably the most unyielding and muted 2006 I have had to date. I happily bought the 2008 from L. Belair this year.

No, it´s Les Gaudichots - the parcel below La Grande Rue owned by Pierre Hudelot and worked by Machard de Gramont.

So I am guessing you also entered the vineyard and stole grapes from RC ?

Robert,
I´m not sure. You may be right or wrong but it´s a question of meters …

The reason is than the closest part of Les Gaudichots bordering the road is classified as Village AOC. The 1er Cru part lies further inwards …touching La Tâche - and the former parcel of Gaudichots belonging to Lamarche has been added to La Grande Rue and is no longer 1er Cru but GC.
And if the distance from this 1er Cru Gaudichots to RC is less than from the most Western corner of RC to Aux Reignots I simple cannot decide from my maps.

tasted 08-10 La Grand Rue at Lamarche in June of 11
The upward curve there is crazy right now. Beautiful wines

I have a lot of Liger Belair in my cellar and have bought consistently from '01 through 10 (with '08 as an exception), so I certainly don’t mean this as an attack, but is anyone else concerned about amount of new oak of the wines? I’ve recently revisited the '02 chaumes and was fairly surprised by an offputting, harsh note that I (perhaps wrongfully) attributed to new oak that didn’t integrate. Given that none of Louis-Michel’s wines have reached maturity (in my estimation), it is a bit of a guessing game as to how they will turn out. I’ve probably gone from being 100% bullish on the wines to cautiously optimistic. For 2010, I limited my purchases from Liger Belair compared to what I’ve bought in the past.

A

We had a beautiful showing last night of the '02 Reignots.

That is very good to hear.

05 was really the pivotal vintage for them. Louis Michel was “finding his way” prior, or so I was told by the NY wholesaler. Even he thinks big strides were made between 05 and 08. His 2008s are stunning on all levels. Even his 07s are extremely good for the vintage.

You should give Lamarche a second chance. The style and quality of the wines is completely different since Nicole took over as a winemaker. 2010 Grand Rue was one of the best wines I had in Burgundy this past summer and their Malconsorts is to die for.

Some of their wines from the 50s and 60s are absolutely sublime as well.
I have tried some 97s and 04s recently from various plots and they are perfectly lovely in a more delicate sort of way.

Who produces a wine from Les Gaudichots these days? I have a bottle of 03 from Potel but I haven’t seen much of anything from the last vintage or two. Pretty hard to find.

Forey and Gramont still make it, and there’s also one from Le Moine now.

Right, Forey is the biggest producer, and 2nd is Gramont.
I´m not sure if Le Moine makes it every year, haven´t seen it in the market after 2007/08 (and never tasted any …)
Potel made some until at least 2007 … (no Gaudichots seen by Bellene so far)
Vigot-Battault made it until at least 2001 …
There was a bottling of 2008 by Michel Saban,
and a 1996 G. by Jadot.

The parcel of Lamarche always went into La Grande Rue,
the parcel of Moillard (now Dujac) always into their Malconsorts.
I think DRC always sold their Gaudichots, maybe sometimes it ended in the 1er Cru Duvault-Blochet … sometimes Potel got it, but this has never been confirmed.

Le Moine made in 2009, no I didnt get the only three packthat came to my source. [wink.gif] I however got the Forey version.
