Non fancy italian reco nyc?

I just read about the fire at Fiaschetteria Pistoia. We were just there 4 weeks ago. Not a large damage, apparently.

Good to know about bar seating at Don Angie.

Osteria Morini
Pasquale Jones
Via Carota

Not traditional checkered cloth but good

Porsena (21 E 7th St.)

This might give you some ideas also:

Gene’s- really old school and geriatric but classic red sauce - West Village
Supper- East Village- no cc’s but very reliable food and wine list or you can BYO
Via Carota and or The Little Owl can both be great but the wait is long and no reservations and not particularly red sauce.- West Village
De Andrea is quite decent in Flatiron, and it’s red sauce-

So where did op end up and how was it?

Blast from the past, in my case at least. I used to go to the original W Village location and had gone once to the (then) new location in Flatiron some 5 or 6 years back. Yep, solid red-sauce joint.

Esca for the grilled octopus, pasta neri ( squid ink pasta w cuttlefish ),the best linguini with clam sauce in the city, and all the fish is great esp the branzino for 2 cooked in salt . Crudo and salads are very good- near the theatre district . Pretty casual. Also love Pasquale Jones for casual.

Ciccio.
