Night two in Telluride

Some good drinking tonight. Flannary Hangers with wild rice and a mixed green salad.

1965 Inglenook Cask G25, 1970 Sterling, NV Heitz Lot MZ1 (Bottled in 1975), 2004 Latour-Giraud Meursault Cuvee Charles Maxime.

Gonna post some notes? [basic-smile.gif]

Who needs notes?

They were all VERY NICE!

Notes have a value of zero, so 4 times zero is still zero.

After much thought, I have nothing more to add to Phil’s comments.

Stinkers. pileon

Eat shit Jack! If you had the balls to stand up to your ex you’d be here drinking with us.

And tonight will be even better.

Eat shit??? How did you know that was here culinary specialty??? [welldone.gif]

If you run across this lady on the slopes this weekend, tell her you tried to get me there too.

Wow she’s hot, tell her to look me up…you can stay home.

Wifey is in Seattle, still examining knishes this week?

Nope, she’s flying in tonight. We’ve got a large wine group in town this weekend.

If anyone has notes or lucid impressions of the Heitz, I would be very interested. I have been holding my last bottle of this for some time…wondering if it is still as enjoyable as it was the last time I had it. These old Heitz often do not travel well, even just across town to a restaurant, so I am doubly curious about this one, assuming it traveled some distance shortly prior to consumption.

Merrill, the Heitz was driven from Wa State and was consumed 2 day later.

Pop and poured it started with a great nose and palate…got better over the next hour + and maintain itself over the course of the evening.

So in other words, it’s real good stuff.

Merrill, it is a different bottling but another datapoint on one of these old Heitz oddballs. Simply fantastic.

Opened for my 40th. John Gilman wrote a fantastic review of this wine that sums it up. It’s a baby Heitz Martha’s with huge notes of mint and eucalyptus bursting from the decanter the moment is is opened. Smoke and underbrush join the party as well. Wow, what a palate, totally silken and resolved, fresh and juicy, just gorgeous yesteryear Cabernet from Napa, classic, bright red fruit, supple, gorgeous balance. Not tired in the least. Really stunning. (93 pts.)

Thanks for the note, Steve. If the Heitz was “up” in one place for 48 hours, that can make a world of difference with these wines, I think.

Eric - maybe when I turn 40 this year, I will open my bottle. My bottle is exactly what Steve shows here - exact label/bottling.

I suspect you will enjoy it.

It was a joke - 40 was some time in the past. I actually tend to open these special bottles for “no occasion.” Takes the pressure off the expectation of a memorable bottle. [bow.gif]

Yeah, my sarcasm meter is pretty busted in general…
