News Alert: Riesling does not age!

Yes,

It is a drier style depending on the year.

Slightly dated? That’s a 2005! Over the hill!

What’s Steve Martin’s line in “The Jerk?” Something like, “No, no, waiter. Bring be a bottle of your FRESHEST wine.”

Great idea.

Waiter: “Would monsieur care for another bottle of Chateau Latour?”
Navin: “Ah yes, but no more 1966. Lets splurge! Bring us some fresh wine! The freshest you’ve got - this year! No more of this old stuff.”
Waiter: “Oui monsieur.”
Navin: “He doesn’t realise he’s dealing with sophisticated people here.”

While I love aged Riesling I know of many who do not. They love the young vibrant profile, but when it starts to show notes of petrol, its a turn off. If they like Red Truck (or whatever you order for them), my guess is they like fruit and younger wines. Perhaps what they should have said is they like younger Rieslings, not that it does not age.

Still one of my favorite all time quotes…

Ah, but there actually is a Red Riesling (Roter Riesling)

Of course, aged white riesling goes bad and tastes like gasoline. headbang

Do not forget about that awful smell of gas fumes!
