Seeking the assistance of you New Yorkers: I need to know more about Rye, NY. My wife will be attending a conference pertaining to her profession and I’m going to tag along. The hotel and conference is in Rye, NY. What’s it like there? I know how far it is from NYC as the crow flies, but truly how challenging would it be to get into the city, if we wanted to? Into what airport should we fly? Food, etc.? Thanks in advance for anything you can tell me!
There is a train right there which takes ~40 minutes to Manhattan. Also, Zachys is in Port Chester which is a several minute drive from where I suspect you will be. Greenwich and Rye both have good dining.
Airports: LGA and JFK are less than an hour drive. HPN is about 30 minute drive.
Rye is a walkable town, although not from your hotel, would need a cab to get there. Nothing really to do though… it will probably take about 40 mins to see the whole town.
I would bypass Zachy’s - not what is used to be.
Head into Manhattan if you can. Portchester has great Central/South American cuisine
Rye Bar and Grill, the Snakery for baked treats, Village Social, Bare Burger are all pretty good. Lots more within 30 minutes if you have a car.
Thanks for the tips, All.
Two thoughts:
First I’d be looking at the schedule for the Capitol Theater in Portchester. It’s a pretty iconic place to see music and they have a ton of great acts go through there. You might get lucky with the timing and catch a great show.
Second, it’s a suburb of NYC with a train station. I’m not sure where you’re from or how often you get to NYC, but if you’re up for a bit of an adventure, the train to NYC takes 45-55 minutes depending on the number of stops. Even an uber wouldn’t be terrible. Both options give you access to some of the best restaurants/theater/etc. in the world.
