Labor Day walk in lunch, after a cool ferry ride from E34th pier. My and wife’s 1st time @fourhorsemenbk and won’t be our last.

Great to experience what others here have raved about.

So happy you made it to the Four Horsemen. That Vollenweider is just freaking insane!

Had a mindblowingly great meal last night at GEM! We have not been in two months and it far exceeded our high, high expectations.

Your intrepid reporter is going to new Redhook hot spot Cafe Kestrel tonight. Will report back!

I screwed up my reservation for Cafe Kestrel (it is actually tonight) so we pivoted to Foxface for a 3:30 dinner and wowser!

Run, don’t walk, to Foxface the current menu is just insane!!! It was nearly impossible to choose and everything was insanely great. On our second course I made a reservation for next weekend.

Cafe Krestel was very good. The Chef has a unique, playful way with the composition of his dishes. Small all natural wine list. $30 corkage. The fries are amazing. Very small restaurant that on Sunday was filled with restaurant industry people and serious food people. Fairly close to the Red Hook tavern. I could easily see Red Hook becoming a much bigger food destination. And one of my favorite record stores (360) is just down the street.

I put a review and pictures on World of Mouth.

I love them both.

Funny, 360 was also the name of the pioneering natural wine spot in Red Hook. I used to eat there at least twice on every trip to NYC 20 years ago. Jorge has obviously gone on to be a major part of many restaurants since. It was the inspiration for my brother to open Rue Cler.

Of course! Arnaud Erhart. Jorge and others also worked there. The record store is in the same location. And it has the same vibes. I discovered they have live music on Sunday night so we stopped at a wine store and picked up some Riesling and Beaujolais after dinner and went back to listen to music. All in all it was a beautiful night.

What is Arnaud up to these days?

I think back and forth between France where he has a restaurant or cooks in one and Puerto Rico where he has scuba diving business.

Loved that place. Many fun evenings there with Dressner, Dougherty and crew, as you know. Probably the greatest food at the lowest price I’ve ever had.

That place was amazing.

I also loved 360. My girlfriend (now my wife) and I used to go there a lot from my place nearby in Carroll Gardens. Great memories.

Fascinating. What a pairing!

$25 for 3 courses if i recall. i think i went there about 10 times in 2002 or 2003.

wish i was into wine back then. can only imagine what they were serving then.

Spur of the moment grabbed an early-bird 5:00 res that was sitting there yesterday. Nice room, really nice meal. Stand-outs were the Stuffed Swiss Chard and the Bass with Swiss Chard, Lentis + Horseradish Cream. Had a nice bottle of Jura Trousseau. Nothing worth doing handstands to get in, but a very good meal, and I’d happily go back.

Those were the days. Restaurants that use top ingredients are getting more and more expensive. I know it is not because they are making more money it is simply the cost of ingredients.

i am sure other operating costs are influencing food prices more so than cost of ingredients. even around 2012 you could still get a solid 3 course lunch at gotham bar and grill or the like during restaurant week for $24.

Some of it is directly related to the cost of food. Especially fish.
