New York City, aka Manhattan and the boroughs BYO

North End Grill in Battery Park City charges $25/bottle but has a limit of 2 bottles per table :frowning:.

Excellent food and service and they make a fine Sazerac.

I just had dinner earlier this week at restaurant Marc Forgione. It is located at 134 Reade St. in TriBeCa. http://www.marcforgione.com/ The corkage was $25 and service was great (I think it was a 2 btl per table limit but I only brought 1 btl). I feel like at other restaurants in the past I have experienced quite a bit of aggravation when trying to bring my own wine. At this restaurant it couldn’t have been more smooth or polite. The person on the phone taking my reservation was aware of the policy and told me the deal immediately, without having to check with a manager or somm, etc. When I entered the restaurant, the hostess immediately brought my bottle to the bar. The waiter asked when I wanted it served(with main course or earlier), stems where nice. Overall, best BYO experience I have had in a long time so thought I would share with you guys. Also, the food was excellent.

After reading this thread and having such a good experience with BYO at Marc Forgione, I BYO’d at North End Grill later in the same week. Service was great, stems were great, and corkage was $25. If you are looking to open more than 2 btls, I think you should call ahead, there may be some flexibility there.

What did you order? I posted my notes here:

It’s already on the list but the free corkage on Sunday nights at the Bar Room at the Modern is a really good deal. Wine service was excellent – they have a wide range of high-quality stems, were willing to decant a bottle for us, etc., and the food was very good too.

+1 on the Sunday corkage-free day at the Bar Room at the Modern.
Have had a few Sunday dinners there and the good service, wine and food, is consistent whether it’s just wife and I, or there are 6 of us. Gerat Alsace-themed dishes, too.

Kin Shop: $25. Brought one bottle, they chilled it for us, glasses were fine. Modernish thai. Food is tasty but not cheap.

Broadway at 28th St.

$35/bottle, limit 4 750mL bottles. If you need it they have a personal sommelier charge of $250.
I think this is the same policy as EMP (it’s the same ownership).
Food is outstanding.

Yep. Same policy as EMP. Discourages larger wine groups.

What did you eat?

I was there last night. Excellent!

A crab/lemon/tagliatelle starter and the roast chicken with foie gras/truffles. Both were outstanding. The tagliatelle used to be on the lunch menu at EMP back when they had the $28 lunch.

I imagine if you wanted to do a larger wine dinner you could probably work something out with them? Probably wouldn’t be cheap though.

Thanks Corey. Both sound good. I’m not sure how approachable they would be to large wine dinners. Their policy (at EMP) definitely changed to discourage it. It was $25 a bottle when I started doing wine dinners there and unlimited bottles. Then it went to $35 a bottle plus $250 sommelier fee which was high but OK for an occaissonal special dinner. Wine service was always great. Final straw was when they limited number of bottles.

Nice. I presume you had to endure their no corkage, no-sommelier Sundays by bringing something nice to drink.

Yep and '91 Jamet didn’t suck!

Haven’t re-read this thread in awhile, so apologies if this is already covered, but the Sunday night no-corkage policy in the bar room of the Modern is now limited to two bottles per table. Kind of forced our hand when we showed up with seven people. Peking Duck House it was!

Everyone should update this page as they have new options or restaurants…

I’ve been using this list for a while now and I find it comes in handy.

shocking we went there last night with free corkage and the somm was great, actually tipped him directly he was so good.

See long thread on the main page about our experience, but I really can’t emphasize enough that going to Apriary with good wine at this point is like pouring it down the drain. FWIW, after our experience of a few months back, my fiance went there with someone else and had a similar experience of good food and disastrous wine service, so at this point its more than a sample size of one.

Aldea: $25, 1 750mL bottle limit, can’t be on the list.
Glasses are ok but not great. They have 1 white wine glass and 1 red wine glass, and poured my red burg in their red wine glass which is a bordeaux glass, not ideal as I do like the wider bowl for burgundy.
Food is tasty but not spectacular and not cheap.
