Sarah - Thank you for the recommendation on Wallflower! We were looking for a place to do an early dinner after a matinee and of course BYO. We ate there last night and loved it - the deviled egg appetizer and the trout over French lentils entrée was a big hit. It was quiet in NYC generally because of the snow so the restaurant wasn’t packed which I’m sure was unusual for a Saturday night. Loved that they only charged us corkage on one of our bottles of wine but not sure that’s the norm.
I was not charged for bringing one bottle at Cafe Centro on Saturday night. Located on the 46th Street side of Grand Central, it is quiet on Saturday night, closed Sunday. I saw a long table next to the gas fireplace that would be perfect for 10-12 people. Solid French/American cooking with an open kitchen. Creative desserts, too. Reminded me very much of the former Brasserie.
I ate there last month. If you’re coming from work, there’s a wine store across the street and slightly further west on 57th street. I thought they had reasonable prices, and a few wines that you would know.
Avant Garden, E. Village. Corkage is $35. Vegan, very small storefront on 7th St near St. Marks. Small list of natural wines. Very nice service, good stems. http://www.avantgardennyc.com/
I don’t remember if I posted here, but Lalito, one of my current favorite local restaurant has a $35 per bottle corkage. Decent stems and they are cordial with byob’d bottles. Great food!
NYY Steak Manhattan- $25 corkage although they have waived corkage two times- 1 time when we brought a 2000 Lynch Bages and ordered 2009 Marcassin PN from their wine list and let the Sommelier taste the Lynch Bages
