Over the last few years there’s been more and more tasting rooms opening in Carmel. I remember several years ago it was pretty much Galante Vineyards then Southern Latitude Wines and the Cheese Shop. Now it seems like the tasting rooms are doubling every year.
Strangely enough, there really isn’t a premium wine shop on the entire Monterey Peninsula…
I begged Clyde Beffa to open a K&L down here but he said the rents were too expensive.
I always thought that was curious too. You would think that the market would be there. The Cheese Shop has some reputable labels, but they’re quite pricey. Nielsen Brothers Market carries some higher end wines, but it’s been years since I’ve bothered to check. I imagine most are simply buying from online retailers.
Whoever’s killing bottles at Andre’s Bouchee has to be getting them somewhere.
In recognition of their new tasting room, I cracked an '07 Proprietor’s Reserve tonight. I do love some Windy Oaks with a little age on them. Thanks to P-Rob for the tip!
Will definitely create more exposure for them and will be fun to visit. But nothing beats sipping some wine, looking out over the bay, while sitting at the top of the ridge in the adirondack chairs.
