Here is a new map for the Lompoc Wine Ghetto. There are new tasting rooms open with more opening within the next few weeks. If it wasn’t a destination before, it is now…
Granted, it’s not in Lompoc, but Jocko’s Steak House in nearby Nipomo is definitely worth the short drive – when I visited a couple weeks ago my friends introduced me to this place: it was, I think, the best steak I’ve ever had.
Are some of these just tasting rooms, rather then their actual wineries??
Like Ampelos winery is over in the EastLompocGhetto. I assume it will remain there?

Brian, I’ve been to Jocko’s, and I know there are lots of very good places within 30-45 minutes of Lompoc (and I don’t consider the trip to Nipomo to be a “short” drive from Lompoc). But I’m talking about in Lompoc itself. If I’m staying in Lompoc - which I often do when I’m in SB County - sometimes I just don’t want to make a lengthy drive to and from dinner. Considering how many fine restaurants have opened up in Paso Robles over the past 10-15 years, I’m surprised that there haven’t been at least a couple of better ones opening in Lompoc, given the concentration of wineries there. Maybe getting more tasting rooms in town that have regular hours open to the public will be the catalyst needed for some more good restaurants.
Yes, The Ghetto was rezoned recently to allow tasting rooms only. Before, 85% of the facility had to be used for production and 15% was allowed for tastings and office space.
Other than Thai, the only other place worth noting would be the Blacksmiths Rest. in old town. They specialize in oak BBQ steaks and chops. And of course we have great Mexican food. Palmina was planning on opening an Italian Deli here in the Ghetto but I think that is being held up by the health department…
Lompoc also has Sissy’s Uptown Cafe which is great for a quick lunch, mostly sandwiches, salads etc… You can also hop up to the country club (5 min from town) and eat at 4300 which is Sissy’s new restaurant (original owner of Uptown Cafe) and home to a fantastic view of the golf course while you dine, keep your eye out for the Ossobuco sandwich. We recently got a couple of Filipino restaurants, but I would only recommend Samantha’s on H street. I only just found out that Penelope’s Tea house has a sit down restaurant, not only do they do finger sandwiches and pastries to have with tea, they have a lunch menu, and the best cream of Artichoke soup! There are a couple of other places in the works, that will hopefully open soon!
couple other things I should note is that Sissy’s Uptown Cafe has almost every local wine made, and a solid by the glass menu. 4300 has a nice selection of beer on tap, as well as many local wines and there is a new wine bar called D’vine (same one that shut down years ago, but new owner) right on Ocean Ave & H street, great place to have a glass.
Don, good to see you post here - welcome! I’ve been to Sissy’s a couple of times for lunch and agree that it’s very good for that. Glad to hear that the wine bar is open again, hope it does better with the new owners.
How’s the wine bar / tapas place at Terravant in Buellton? I haven’t been there yet.
Welcome, Don…glad to see you visit our little corner of CyberSpace. Sissy’s is, indeed, a real gem. Not high-falutin’ or tres chic, but just great/solid/tasty food.
I served both your '08 and '07 EdelZwicker this weekend to different sets of friends…one of whom is a…gag…cat lover. They both received
much raving about.
For those who don’t recognize the name, Don is the winemaker at SeaSmoke and he & Lindsay make the Chien wines, as well. His Gruner blows away
the $45 NapaVlly hoitey/toitey rendition of Gruner in Calif.

Yep. We’re NOT moving the winery… just opening a separate tasting room. Seems like there’s now enough critical mass in The Ghetto that having a tasting room there makes sense.
