New project from a former Fort Worth guy, Jidhin Ramankutty. Got the wine bug and decided to chase the dream, so he packed up his stuff and moved to California. He spent some time at Rivers Marie and this is his first finished wine under his personal label, Turnstile Cellars. Release will be late October, and you can sign up at www.turnstilecellars.com
2023 Scopus vineyard Chardonnay (Sonoma Mountain). For those who enjoy the bigger style of Cali Chardonnays, this fits in the rotation. Signature here is texture (which makes sense based on the lees stirring he talked about). In my opinion, this has some resemblance to Hudson-fruit Chardonnays (big but not flabby, ripe but not overly sweet). If giving comparisons, this reminds me of Odette’s Chardonnay (which tracks with the Hudson comment).
Followed over two days and this showed consistent. Nice job on the inaugural wine. I’ve seen Jidhin comment on the board before, so hopefully he will join the conversation.
Quick shout-out to Jidhin and Turnstile Cellars on the pre-release tasting event earlier this week here in Texas (and the inaugural release the following day)! Great turnout and the feedback should be encouraging, Jidhin.
Well done, again, on your first release, and looking forward to following the upcoming releases (especially the Purrington Rued Chardonnay)!
Excited for you to try this as well! Wine is an excellent place(of course ). Coincidentally, I coravined a bottle for the first time today, I got some additional chamomile notes developing which I’m loving.
