Attended Adam’s “Perch Fest” release party (which featured a falconer!). The wines in general are quite young and wound up, but have a real direct, pure fruit component that should prove very nice with six months or more in the cellar. The Barbera, however, is totally delicious right out of the gate, with super bright, lifted fruit, consistent with Mike Dunne’s writeup, mentioned above.
For reference, I opened his 2020 Amador Zinfandel this evening, and it is in a great place. Really focused plum and blackberry notes with nice acid.
Tried the Barbera tonight and concur, so tasty. There’s something about Amador Co Barbera - every one I’ve tried has this amazing streak of acidity that frames the lush fruit so well. Like many of us, most of my experience is with Piedmont iterations but I’m becoming a big fan of these Amador Co bottlings. This went great with a beef stew on a chilly fall evening and is also dangerously crushable. Could see this as a great grilling season wine as well.
Just grabbed a few bottles from the new fall release after finally listening to his interview on Matt’s podcast. Excited to have some more Perch on hand…
His summer red magnums were made available today.
2023 Magnum Project Red Blend (1.5 Liters) $42
Introducing the 2023 Magnum Project California Red Wine. This is the second iteration of this wine, this time with a blend of six different varieties from both Amador and Lodi. The blend consists of Carignane, Cinsault, Zinfandel, Barbera, Syrah and Petite Sirah and was aged for 20 months total with the final 8 months in a small 30 gallon neutral French oak barrel. The wine is a knock out with punchy acidity that is tempered by generous fuit and the high amount of whole cluster across the various fermentations contributes to a layered tannin structure that has been buffed and shined by the extended barrel age. A wine of pure pleasure, as I love to drink. 13.5% alcohol by volume, 3.43 PH and 6.7 TA. These magnums are meant to be consumed upon release but age them if you like. Hand bottled, corked, labeled and waxed.
I got his last magnum release for Thanksgiving, and it went over very well. Well-priced.
Opened his 2023 Syrah this week, which is tasting great.
Adam is a cool guy doing good work.
I purchased some of the initial release, but haven’t since then. Went in for 3 mags today.
Picked up three of these last release and went through them with speed. Great wine at a great price, in for three more. $20 flat rate shipping gets three mags to my house for $146, almost feels like a BD deal.
Great wines and Adam is a great guy as well. I need to grab some before it sells out!
33 left right now!
Adam is making some really great wines and is an even better person.
