I am cohosting a large bridal shower brunch in a few weeks and we plan to serve mimosas. My cohost belongs to Costco so we hope to find something there. If anyone here has suggestions for something affordable likely to be at the Pentagon City store, I would appreciate them. We expect close to 50 people so need to keep the cost down. TJ in DC also a possibility.
If you are putting orange juice in the bubbles might as well go with the Kirkland Prosecco at like $7.
Not located there, but if the Kirkland Champagne is $20 that is a solid option for Mimosas. I’d agree with Jared and go with their Prosecco before I’d look to TJs. TJs has an occasional decent wine but I’ve never had a decent bottle of bubbles from there.
Agree that cheaper is better. Mimosas are basically a way to water down, sweeten, and obscure the flaws of cheap sparkling wine. Start with something that’s cheap but reasonably good at the price and you’ll be fine.
For me, better juice is more important than better wine. But hell, OJ ain’t cheap either!
Ha, that’s actually a great point! You could reasonably end up spending more on good orange juice than the prosecco, lol.
Do they stock Segura Viudas? The best $10 Mimosa maker for me. I find Prosecco in that price range just gets too sweet on sweet.
You can drink the SV on its own but if you think some might prefer to do so the Reserva is only ~$20 and could mix and match for a realistic pricing all in.
Thanks for the help!
Robert,
That’s a really good call. That specific Cava is extra lively and may do a better job of balancing out the OJ (not the OJ that used to run through airports in commercials and murder the mother of his children!). Great buy at $10, as well.
I kind of agree with the sweetness issue but use barely any OJ so not too much of an issue personally. I think there are better options than SV’s reserva though for the price. That’s the one in the ridiculous bottle, right? I like Juve y Camps Reserva (brut natural) and some of the Cordoniu (sp?) products are decent.
I would agree and also use ~3/4 wine v juice, but that’s why I want a drier wine…too keep the drink from becoming cloying. With a lively wine (good description Jared) you can adjust to your personal taste.
Regarding the Reserva, I was just thinking it might be a cool add on but not necessary option (yes that’s the unfortunate bottle) for keeping a theme in that party atmosphere. I would not just use the Reserva on its own for double the cost.
Personally I’d rather have Raventos which we use for Mimosas instead of regular SV when we are feeling flush.
TBH, I find nothing offensive with Cristalino either when used with fresh squeezed juice (not for sipping) but I wouldn’t bring it to a party.
