Has anyone got a chance to experience older bottles of Pinot Noirs produced by Calera? Saw a 5-bottle lot of 1979 Jensen Vineyard on the K&L auction and wondered if these would be something to dig for.
Do you want advise or advice?
Obviously advice.
Sorry if it bothered you. Title corrected.
This is the sort of lot I’d like one or two bottles of, not 5. But, I have a deep cellar.
We did an '80s Jensen vertical. The '80 had a little brett, as CT TNs show for this. It was a favorite for me. Starting with the '81 they had a terrible, aggressive oak in the mix. (I have a “Reserve” PN from another producer from that era that’s 100% new of that same oak, which ruins the wine, when the regular bottling is beautiful.) It’s not enough to ruin the wines, but to me takes them down a couple notches. We also tasted the (very young, not ready) '96, which Josh had said was the best wine he ever made. It did not have that oak.
