I had my 60th birthday dinner at Ristorante Quadri right on San Marc’s. Very memorable but very expensive.

Thanks so much to both of you.

Special occasion- Club Del Doge at the Gritti Palace. (Outside).

Ai Testiere is casual and tops for seafood. You likely won’t get into Ai Testiere, they are booked for decent seatings through end of September. But they are on line so worth checking. They only have 7 and 9:30 seatings and the last week of September only had 2 days with 7:00 available when I booked three weeks ago. I used to go twice every time on Venice, but impossible these days.

Cafe Quadri was very good.

Osteria da Fiore is one of my favorites for seafood. High end.

My Birthday,

We just went to Testiere for lunch. Excellent food and a lunch reservation was easier to do.

Following. I’ll be there a week before Alan. Already booked at Testiere, Lineadombra, Ombra de Leon. Il Mercanti for Cocktails.

Thank you for the very timely posting, I didn’t realize booking so far in advance was needed/possible. Just grabbed a table for Osteria Alle Testiere last week of August when we will be there. Does anyone know the cancellation policy for the deposit?

Another +1 for Osteria Testiere. Looks like lunch slots on July 13th still open and a 9:30 2-top. We had the later sitting and Luca sat at the table next to us and chatted some while they were closing service. He shared how challenging it is for a their place to not be packed with tourists: they’ve developed a loyal following who are planning trips months in advance, where locals are rarely planning a dinner out 3-4 months ahead. He shrugged and smiled. I think he and Bruno just do what they’re passionate about. He and Bruno have a great backstory as well :). They do what they do very well: super fresh seafood prepared very well in an unfussy ambiance with a thoughtful and interesting wine list. I had 2 or 3 thoughts coming in (actually pricier than his ultimate suggestion) but after hearing our orders, he steered me to a Foradori Fuorapista, which was insanely great with the food and I would never have thought was a Pinot Grigio. And a great Negroni - a little less ABV (if I understood the recipe correctly) since it’s 1:1:1 Select:Nostrano Amaro (their in-house pet project that I bought two bottles of):soda. Really delicious. And unlike many taste experiences sampled overseas, it holds up back home! Have great trips all!

How was Quadri Alan?

Not Quadri but Osteria da Fiore was excellent in June for us. Food and service were great.

Good, not great. Interesting interaction at end of meal: female server came to the table with the bill at end of the meal and in perfect English delivered a stern lecture that we should know that Quadri does not include a service charge in the bill and we should add that. And she stood there as we paid the bill. So we did. Both couples—we split the bill. Later I thought that made no sense and emailed the restaurant. They were dumbfounded. It was a scam by her—likely she also preyed on other dumb Americans—and they refunded the gratuities since service is included.

I also had someone point out tip wasn’t included.

I tipped too. Didn’t notice anything on the menu about service included but locals rarely tip in Italy.

I had two great courses and one so-so. I prefer more traditional than modern Italian good.

Love that place, first tried Pieropan Soave there. La Rocco, Calvarino, now that I’m a BTG guy, their normale. Perfect with the good and affordable.
