My daughter was at a local wine bar and managed to get free pour of Caymus Cab and told me how good it was.
I was thinking of getting her a bottle for a Christmas present but not sure if Caymus is a good QPR as the ratings seem to be around 92.
Are there better choices at this price point ($75 I think) or lower?
It would have to be a bottle ready to drink now.
I don’t drink much cab partly because of the high price.
Wasn’t sure on the price, the place she tasted it I can get a discount so probably should do that.
just wanted to check I am not throwing money away, she does have a good taste for wine so I trust her judgement.

You can’t buy wine like that. Who cares about the points? If she likes it and you want to spend the money, that’s what matters.
If you really care, there are plenty of people who really love this wine and would give it 96 points or more. And others who would give it 72 points.
The wine is ripe and oaky. If that’s your style, go with it. The 92 points is irrelevant - it’s a well-done version of a style. As long as you, or your daughter, like the style, that’s what matters.
For my personal taste, I’d go with something else, but your daughter might not agree. That doesn’t mean she’s wrong or I’m right - it’s just personal preference. But I’d take Chappellet, for example, or a recent re-discovery, Trefethen Oak Knoll, or Corison Napa, for example. But if your daughter likes the Caymus, there’s nothing at all wrong with it, just look for a better price.
And BTW, you don’t have to avoid Cab because of the price - there are some that aren’t that expensive.
Merry Christmas!
Glad you got her what she tasted and liked. $55 seems about right and oh yeah, the 1000ml is impressive.
Now for you: there are many great cabs in a more comfortable price range. Doing the search here will find many. 2012 Hardin Napa on for $22 is a start.
I just shared a 2011 Rivers-Marie Panek and a 2012 12c Cab with my family last night. My daughter loved them both. She’s 21 .
Enjoy your family and don’t be scared away from wines you like.
While that certainly be true, and I would bet that a large majority of WB’ers would prefer to have that over the Caymus, I am guessing that OP’ers daughter had a very recent vintage of the Caymus and enjoyed the “freshness” of it. So, indeed, I would opt for a Caymus from the current vintage or with a few years of bottle age at the most. A $55 price point for ANY Caymus not purchased at auction is about as low as you can get.
