Napa 2023: What Are Your Must-Have Allocations at Different Price Points?

price is creeping up year by year, but I’m still a huge fan of (Berserker Day find) Pezzato.

Got an email today from Bevan closing out his Pinot and chard production. I’m gonna take a bunch of his 2023 Pinots

my son was born in 2023 so i’ve purchased a couple of bottles here and there. some good names mentioned so far, but i would also checkout the old guards that have great track records like: dominus, spottswoode, mayacamas, shafer hillside select, paul hobbs btk and lastly, i know it’s not napa, but ridge montebello should be included as well.

cheers!

I had my son sign up for MacDonald figuring I will be dead before I make the list but he has a chance.

I pulled the trigger on 3x Riverain Tench Vineyard and 6x Riverain Reserve. I’m starting to get a lot of Napa built up so I’m not buying as much. I also struggle with most of the $1-200 offerings when I can get very solid right (Gaffeliere, Pavie Macquin, etc.) and left (Clerc Milon, Duhart Milon, Dame Montrose, etc.) bank wines for $40-70 or so.

I’m curious to compare a 2023 Riverain Reserve @ $275 a bottle vs some 2023 Montrose I picked up at $180 sometime down the road.

Detert is relatively new to me - it is very good and an excellent QPR. And a bit old school for my palate which I like.

After scanning this list, I’d love to know what percentage of MacDonald and Mowe’s client list is represented in this sub. It is pretty crazy how many of us have access to MacD given how short the list is.
