I was hesitant to post this as being too mid for this crowd. The BdB is not going to satisfy Champagne snobs but for 15 bucks across the country, I’m quite satisfied for what it is, picked up 6 for the thanksgiving family crowd.
The rose is fatter and sweeter. Decent but I like the BdB better. Interesting that it is a chard / pinot blanc blend, may narrow down who in Napa sources this.
“Platinum reserve” lol. Did not try “reserve” recently. The Sonoma reserve a couple of years ago was outstanding for 12 bucks, as good as the $15 wine this year, but last year’s reserve (North Coast?) not to my taste.
No one would ever mistake this for Champagne, which is great because this is CA juice!
Bright rays of sunshine light the palate up here. No toast, no brioche, no autolytic flavors at all; this is all about lemon warhead popping acidity from start to finish. Maybe the tiniest hint of creaminess barely on the backend, but this is all electricity.
This destroys Kirkland Champagne, every bottle of $14 Prosecco everyone has at every party, etc. Wife really liked it. Assuming there’s some left after the weekend, in for 6+.
Edit to say: for sure, this could handle some years under cork, but it’s not necessary.
Went for chicken nuggets today and left with one of these as I recalled this thread. Wow to me the taste of green apple is very strong. Very acidic to the point I feel it in my cheeks. Not my style, I need my bread but I’m not a good judge of American sparklers.
Folks in SF must have read this thread. Not a bottle to be seen at the Stonestown Trader Joe’s. No Reserve Brut Rose, either, though I have some back vintages.
When I bought the 6 pack a lady came up to me “is that good champagne?”
I did the right thing and just said "yes, it’s good champagne "
She loaded up.
The rosé brut reserve is “seasonal” so when it’s gone it’s gone until next year. I have few of those too. Very solid crowd pleaser. Great warmup bottle with Scooby snacks.
