Myriad Release

Thanks - I thought that might be a reason for the price hike but that does not appear to be the case . . .

Cheers

Myriad To Kalon is a fairly new bottling?

I also paired back my 2022 purchase, mainly because 2023 is shaping up so well. Blessed to be on Myriad, Maybach and of late, Scarecrow 1st label. Something had to give so dropped Schrader and Tor.

I also dropped schrader and tor. have a ton of 16 vintage of schrader and 16 and 18 tor.

The ā€˜19 Crane was like $165 on release the Elysian I think was $190 both are selling in the secondary for $100 more. Regardless of that, people who think Mike is just charging $300 because he can are off base. People always talk about what great people Mike and Leah are and how you want to support that kind of business. Or is it just the price talking?

Brian, Myriad is fortunate to have you as a customer. I agree Mike and Leah are great people and make great wine, although I have only corresponded electronically. And I have done my best to support them as a business over the years. But price, for me, still matters. If a business brings the price outside of a range I’m willing to pay or have ever paid for a single bottle of wine, then I have to reevaluate things.

I have a budget per month and a young family to care for, so I’m not throwing around the ā€œpriceā€ comment as an easy out.

I understand, we all have price points. My comment is aimed at those who regularly buy $300-$400 Napa Cabs but have issue with this price increase. It’s disingenuous at best. :wine_glass:

I have occasional wines I purchase at the 300 point. But I don’t usually buy many of them. For example, one of my favorite producers that hit 300 is Vice Versa. If they go above 300, I will probably still purchase a few, but not nearly as many as I have.

I only have a few producers that push me past my $300 comfort zone. As the below poster mentioned Vice Versa is one of the few and purchases are still slim at that point… Question for the overall group regarding that +$300 price point. Regardless of scores I understand folks must run a business but how long are those price points sustainable

Ask Andy Beckstoffer.

Though as long as Andy has folks willing to pay what he is charging, he’ll be fine . . .

I agree with your post above about ā€˜value’ for these wines relative to other Napa wines in those same price points - I don’t think anyone is questioning the quality of these wines but instead the magnitude of the price increase only . . .

Correct and if you want to buy Beckstoffer, Dr. Crane Wines $300 is starting price regardless of who makes it. It’s tough to swallow but unfortunately it’s reality.

Does anyone know what Bevan’s Dr. Crane will be released at next week? Just curious if he will offer under $300 and stay in line with the few wines that increased from $195 to $245 this year or if the Beckstoffer contract on Dr. Crane has to push him to the $300 mark as well.

Realm last year went from $300 to $350 for Dr. Crane.

I used to buy Realm, Myriad and Bevan’s Dr. Crane bottlings but I may have to choose just 1 producer vs all 3 like I have in the past based on the price increases across the board.

Is the Dr Crane worth it?

^^ This.

At $250ish for the Dr. Crane vineyard, Myriad (ā€˜22) and Bevan (ā€˜21) are the prime deals for the vineyard. How times have changed. I love me some DrC, but the pill is getting bigger and bitterer to take down. Is there a less expensive DrC I don’t know about?

$245 +tax/shipping

Nope

So it appears that Dr Crane VIneyard has a minimum amount you have to charge and it is $250 or so? Is that true? Again, just trying to understand a situation I am not as familiar with as perhaps I should be.

As some wineries are ā€˜bargains’ compared to others, that doesn’t mean they are able to charge less than Beckstoffer says - they are just at the lowest level allowed - is that correct?

Cheers

Good question, and there will be a lot of debate on the subject. in 2019 it was worth 200 or so now its taken quite a leap. The Myriad is 300, the Bevan as above with tax tags etc is close to 300 and the Realm is in that neighbored also at release and is 500+ at Benchmark, vice versa about 300 and Lithology the same. All getting high marks… In financial terms the market is set by what price is between the buyer and the seller. The fruit creates certain similarities in the final product. However each winemakers adds their idiosyncratic elements so they will not be all that similar. Of course one of has to determine if the price is right for the individual. There is no question these are good wines if they fall into the category of what an individual appreciates. Are there equal or better at a more reasonable price. I believe so. But having said that I do not know what the price is on some others that have not been released. others here may no pricing. Kinsman, VHR, Fait Main. the couple of years have been a great year to get into bordeaux before that pricing goes way up. If a lot of these wines show up on retail shelves at the release price then that infers the winemaker made less money on each bottle at the same price. Was the winemaker better selling all the wine at a lower price to their clients or were they better at the higher price maybe to be more (exclusive). Only time will tell.

Another question I ask myself, the Crane wines went up significantly, is this the 2020 effect? has Crane fruit contracts been renegotiated? I do not know, again others here may.

In the end if you drink and can afford good Napa wines in a particular style you will not go wrong with Crane.

The ā€œregularā€ Dr. Crane is $250. The Elysian is $295. I don’t think people realize Myriad has 2 Dr Crane offers
