Interesting. This was the first wine I bought from Mike with the '06 vintage. The Spring Mtn. Was the antithesis of the Dr. Crane. Unfortunate if he’s not doing this anymore as it really showcased his range.
I just maxed out the Shafer allocation so my card is screaming, sure do wish I didn’t have to go deep on Myriad but it’s a given.
But you get all those airline points!
Yes I do, woohoo! Didn’t I just post on another thread that I wasn’t going to purchase much for the next few months. But, thanks for helping me rationalize my purchase.
If it makes you feel any better, I just bought all 3 of the Carter Cellars To Kalons. The madness must stop!
Please note that the aforementioned statement does not apply to the upcoming Kistler, Myriad, and Aubert releases.
Is it too late to get an offer from Myriad for this release?

Can someone fill me in - are Mike’s wines similar in style to TRB’s, and how does the Myriad Napa compare to the RM Napa?
Mike learned early from TRB that consumers buy flavor. In that approach they are similar… Mike seems to peak the richness scale a lot making his Napa blend very easy to drink young. I don’t generally get the vanilla notes I commonly find on RM Cabs although my sample size with RM has been smaller.
Alan,
Brian hit the nail on head. I will add that Carter fills the gap between Myriad/Quivet and RM in style.
RMs entry level wine is bigger boned and worthy of a sleep as seen elsewhere with the RM 2006 note recently. Mike makes some of his wines super approachable when young and the other bunch worthy of the nap; his Elysian is a great example. if you were to compare say a 2010 RM Napa with a 2010 Myriad Napa, there would be a big chasm of styles. Make no mistake, RM designates are serious contenders in this world of great Napa Cabs, his Panek being one of the best $75 anyone will ever spend on a Cab. Ever. It’s a baby Schrader.
CLONYC hosted Mike and Leah Smith just last week (3rd time in 3 years). Notes are searchable right here on this site. The whole lineup rocked. Imagine my delight as I opened the box in the restaurant before they arrived to find twelve, count them twelve 2012 Cabernets! (I was happily expecting some whites and syrahs in the mix of 12). The 13th arrived by hand!
Man it’s a good time to be me: King Cab.
Cheers!

Thanks guys.
Anyone care to give me thoughts on how the Myriad Cabs compare with Mike’s other label, Quivet? I am new to this party having bought some 11’s from Quivet and one Myriad. Opened only 1 Quivet Pellet cab, which I loved. I have a few 12 Pellet’s coming and would like to buy some Myriad’s in this offer that would give me a sense of the breadth of Mike’s products. Probably trying to stick to a budget of $400-500. Suggestions?
I have been a buyer since I believe 2008 of Myriad and the ocaisonally Quivet. If you are a fan of Napa style which I would claim is a little more fruit forward, more approachable early, great long silky tannin finish than most of the Myriad’s are right in your wheelhouse. The GIII probabaly being the best of that style.
If you are fan of more old world Napa, cooler grwoing sights, more nuanced, slightly more tannic, made for aging, then Quivet is probably a better fit for your palate. The Dr. Crane at times can be worthy of age, and the Dr. Crane Reserve is definately going to be worth of age, both of these are Myriad bottlings.
With all of that being said, I tend to purchase more Myriad because I enjoy the warmer more fruit driven style. Howver, I have enjoyed every Quivet I have purchased, just don’t go running back for more for some reason.
Brian, I think your budget is pretty easy to get a good range of the wines. If you are looking to acquire numerous bottles I would go as follows:
4 - Napa Valley
1 each - of the George III, Three Twins & Dr. Crane.
If you are looking to have multiples:
2- Napa Valley
2- Three Twins
2- GIII
1-2 of Dr. Crane’s if you can handle going over $500 by a few dollars.
Cheers,
Mark
Thanks Mark. Just the info I was hoping to get.
I am going to purchase everything that is offered to me. Mike is the friendliest winemaker that I have met. He will do whatever it takes to make sure that you are a satisfied customer.
Quick Myriad story.
Brought a 2011 Napa to a BBQ Saturday. My daughter and her newly acquired (post Europe semester) love of wine proclaimed it her favorite wine. The next day at another BBQ she asks if I have any more. I told her yes, three but not to worry as the new one comes out this week. She high fives me. Keep in mind 20 year olds don’t high five much anymore, more of a fist pump I think. Anyway, there are 4 Pobegas who are now fans. Gotta up my order.

Mike,
I’m declaring July 9, 2014, Pobega Day on Wineberserkers.
… but not until 9AM PDT!!!
Make that 10AM. I got it confused with next week’s R-M offer.
Anyway, my order is in for about 2 1/2 cases.
