My Wine of the Year Under $30 Candidate.

Don’t rip on the $10 bottles. Have had a few good one’s lately.

There’s been a slow trickle of OZ wines coming over to the US, typically mid/higher end wines, that are a couple vintages ā€˜off the run’ and need to be sold and drunk up. I guess the estates accept the long run brand damage that the discounting brings, but given that selling into China is much harder now under the new tariffs there may not be much of a choice.

Works for me. Honestly have not bought many Aussie wines lately but did get a six pack more of the Sandown. Even better that Lisa P. gave it 86.

Most interesting difference between the first bottle to the second of my life but equally great. This might be the wine of the year for me and it is only April. Thanks Lisa P. for the 86 point score on this one.

2011 Clarendon Hills Cabernet Sauvignon Sandown - Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, Clarendon (4/15/2022)
Day 1: Holy Sh…! First bottle bringing the funk. Second bottle cross between Napa/Bordeaux and this bottle to the first bottle form bringing the FUNK! Think Cayuse without the olive character. Funk, minerals, spice, blueberries and dust. Hard to describe how good this is for $27.99. Lisa B. you got this one wrong and good luck on your new venture. 95 points (95 points)

2011 Clarendon Hills Cabernet Sauvignon Sandown - Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, Clarendon (4/14/2022)
WTSO Recent Wines; 3/1/2022-4/14/2022: Day 1: The first bottle was off the charts. This bottle is a completely different experience but equally likeable. Cassis, minerals, stone, roasted chestnuts, spice, blueberries and graphite. Kind of a hybrid between Bordeaux and Napa Valley. How this is only $27.99 at WTSO is beyond me but I am buying a case. 94 points
Day 2: Again this is not the same experience and lacks that funk but great wine. Cassis, minerals, blueberries, graphite, dust, earth and gravel. Amazing stuff! 94 points
Recommendation: Normally I don’t say BUY but this is an exception! $27.99 on WTSO. (94 points)

2011 Clarendon Hills Cabernet Sauvignon Sandown - Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, Clarendon (4/6/2022)
WTSO Recent Wines; 3/1/2022-4/14/2022: Day 1: Every now and then you get a wine that is polarizing and this is it. Dark purple and perfect cork. The funk on this wine is off the charts in a good way. Funk, blueberries, cigar, spice, minerals, dust, rose petals and pepper. The concentration on the finish is dense. Medium plus finish and nice acidity. This is my new favorite wine of the year. 94 points
Day 2: Most anticipated day 2 experience of the year. It is again outstanding while a bit different. The amazing funk nose and palate has soften but this wine now reveals: Blueberries, minerals, dark chocolate, tar, spice, black pepper and forest floor. Picks up some menthol on this concentrated medium plus finish. Equally as good and hard to save any for day 3 but I will. 94 points.
Day 3: Wow still great and an experience. Dark chocolate, dust, earth, black pepper, blue currants, cigar and tar. Flavorful to the max and balanced wine. Medium to long finish. Outstanding. 94+ points
Recommendation: This is my wine of the year so far and for $27.99 at WTSO you can’t go wrong.

THREEDAY-APRIL code that will work through April 18 on any wines on the site. $10 off $50 or more. (94 points)

Tidy little wine. Had two bottles gifted over xmas. Nothing remarkable, but not toilet wine. Drank one bottle among friends, we moved on quickly. Second bottle used to marinate some loose meats. Would buy again if I could find for under $12.

It’s up on WTSO again.

I saw that. They must have a ton of this wine. When I went to buy more it said out but then you are right it ended up on their pop up wine of the hour.

The year has a long way to go, but a solid contender for me would be the 2019 William Fevre Domaine Chablis which I posted a TN on yesterday. I thought this was a solid wine and a great QPR at $27.

On release this was under $20 and likely my wine of the year based on price.

Well stupid me to promote this wine and of course Davenport. Sold out now. Went to order a case and all gone.

Todd should suspend your posting privileges for 60 days. You’re a half assed Berserker. First you stock up, then you post the tasting note or let people know where to buy it.

What the hell are you talking about! This wine has been available for ever. Tom sit back down.
