“Raspberry and cherry aromas are complicated by graphite, tobacco and anise. Sweet red and dark berry flavors possess liqueur-like depth but are lithe and incisive, with impressive mineral lift on the back end. Juicy, finely etched red fruits dominate the long, sappy finish. A smoky quality arrived with air, adding further dimension and depth.”-Josh Raynolds
I do think Dr. Big J has kind of poisoned the well for pricier Spanish wines.
I almost feel a little guilty not to be taking advantage of this but when I compare this to what else is around from other countries at similar prices, it is hard to pull the trigger.
Sorry Dan. Maybe I’ve just written a delete-able comment come to think of it…
This is a great deal on this wine. I have no complaints with Finca Dofi and think it represents the sweet spot in the Palacios line up. That said, I’ve got some other vintages in the cellar still and even at this price (less than I paid for the 04 & 05, sadly) I have to take a pass.
Dan lemme know when you have discounts like this on Ciacci, Bea, Mascarello, Fourrier or Clavelier!
Hopefully you got some Bea from us recently, as we blew out 2004.
That being said, this is one of the issues, from your comment above…not too many consumers carrying verticals of Spanish stuff…a similar issue that the Aussies had. Buy one vintage, you have bought them all!
On the Bea, I did get some a while back but I’d back up the truck at $45
I still buy a good bit of Spanish stuff but you’re right… you have enough of the wines, a new vintage doesn’t taste that much different than the others, it becomes a big whoop. I couldn’t tell 04/05/06 Priorats apart blind based on vintage descriptions, and maybe not even after a lot of practice… doesn’t mean I don’t like the wines, just is what it is.
