just back
stayed at the hoxton was quite nice but seemingly expensive for the quality
krua thai was very good and packed. excellent curries and a cool spot
perla is a pizza spot not too far from anne frank house and was spot on. napolitan style and delicious.
nice they had a bunch of westvleteren to offer although not cheap at 20 euro per .33 bottle!
daalder was definitely the culinary highlight. went with 5 courses and the pairings. we all loved everything and ended up hanging with the chef for a while.
an excellent suggestion for my buddy’s 60th night so my thanks to all here for the recc ![]()
Mark, nice to hear you had a good trip. Daalder is one of our favorites and Krua Thai was a pleasant surprise. Every trip to Europe we try to pay Amsterdam a visit except our current visit to Italy which is not a bad alternative ![]()
Tom
thanks tom
we were able to sit outside at daalder as well
it really helped the experience!
Anyone been to Cafe Caron in Amsterdam? That was one similar French bistro style place recommended to me.
I’m back for another 3+ weeks visit and dined at Restaurant Daalder last night. Enjoyed a fine solo dining experience that will be for sure re-visited. Opted for the 5 course vegetarian menu and wine pairings, but first a glass of champagne.
Sat at the Chef`s table bar seating area which gives one a first hand observation of the creation of many of the appetisers by 2 skilled sous chefs. Loved the amuse, mango and seasoned vegetables Madame Jeanette, unique and tasty egg dish, imaginatively presented and prepared lasagne, equally creative and mushroom risotto and the dessert course which was paired with an unexpected but effective Whiskey Sour. See menu for details.
The servers and prep staff are well informed and able to articulate details about each dish and wine. There seems to be a lot of cross training. One of the dishes was presented by the chef himself, Dennis Huwae, who has that gleam in his eyes that says I’m on to something here.
I felt welcomed, comfortable and appeased.
There was an overall pervading serious attitude that existed. The staff needs to relax and have fun. There was an edge that was just a bit noticeable throughout the evening, but its up to me to make it good and I did.
I loved the experience and thought is was one of the best meals I’ve had in Amsterdam and will be sure to go back especially when my wife is present to share it with her.
