Looking for a quaint, nice place to stay in the Mountain View area. Any suggestions?
A little more info in what you are after might help. Mountain View is a highly industrialized city built originally around a Naval Air Station and now around High Tech. I just can’t put quaint and Mountain View together with out giggling a little. All the hotels I know of in the area are geared 100% to business travel. Great if you come on the weekend because rates are super cheap.
We have tickets to the Bridge School Benefit Concert at the Shoreline Amphitheater. We are looking for something nice, but not too pricey, nearby. I thought about staying in San Francisco, but we won’t be in the area long enough for that to make sense. Palo Alto is close enough, though, I think.
Mostly just hotels around the area, but check out http://www.dinahshotel.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.
A bit less mainsteam.
Cool that helps a lot. I didn’t want to send you somewhere that would put you in morning commute traffic if it was for work.
The Four Season’s is the nicest near by hotel, but it’s going to run you $300 and it’s not really a good location if you want to do any walking.
The hotel Valencia at Santana Row is about 20 minutes from Shoreline. The spa is nice, and it’s a very popular outdoor mall.

I usually refer people to the Hotel Los Gatos, about 30 minutes from Shoreline. A good location if you want to walk around and Flemings/Jenkins and Testerossa have tasting rooms in walking distance:

If you’re just after nice and cheap there are probably 40 hotels in Sunnyvale and Santa Clara along the freeway and no more than 10 minutes from Shoreline.

Most will have rates around $100 on the weekend if you book 7-10 days before. Don’t worry, this place doesn’t crowd up on weekends
Final tip, take the Amphitheater exit on 101 not the Shoreline Exit. Save you about 15 minutes getting parked.
An option is the Stanford Park Hotel across El Camino Real from the University. Had my wedding reception there back in '86. Was a nice place then and Palo Alto hasn’t gone slummy since then either.
Brian,
I looked at tjhe Stanford, but it is booked. Thanks anyway. Your wedding must have been beautiful. We wed on the porch of our friends’ 1920s rock house in the Valley of the Gods. Sounds like a bit different experience.
Paul,
Thanks. Exactly what I needed to know.
