Most interesting White Wine in the world…

It is definitely a unique wine if it has been aging for 8 years in oak when it is just 7 years old!

Excellent wines. I’ve had a few magnums from the first half of the 90s that have been pretty unique. Especially the 93 from what i can recall.

I’d never heard of Bourdy Galand des Abbesses before this conversation. A few bottles appeared on wine-searcher this morning and I snatched them up. Thanks.

Lucky you! I’ve seen them occasionally In internet shops, but never in I’d buy from. If I were to see one at a reasonable price, I’d grab one (or several) immediately.

I hope you’re ok with beverages like Barolo Chinato or artisanal Vermouth. This is sort of the same thing, only taken into the level of magical.

Our house white is Albarino but last week we had a 2021 Bodegas Avancia Godello old vines which was amazing and now we will look for more bottles of this grape.

You both got me so interested I just grabbed two as well.

You can reach out to me if you want to know if the price I found is reasonable for you . It appears they still have some.

I’m interested to hear which place! And if they deliver to Finland, if their delivery costs are reasonable and if they have anything else interesting available so I can fill a case.

I love Condrieu , the wine has little or no acidities and the women in my family prefer that style over white Burgundies . My mother is 88 years old and she still drinks a bottle of Condrieu every day . So I have been drinking Condrieu all my life …
I used to like Andre Perret’s coteau de Chery a lot . Georges Vernet makes excellent ones , so does Chapoutier . I don’t like the la Doriane from Guigal , too heavy for me . But there are so many excellent producers these days .

But my vote for the most interesting white wine goes to the white Chateauneuf du Pape “ Magis “ from Mounir and Rotem Saouma . It is not understandable that this wine does not get more excitement from the wine press . The very long elevages that this wine is subjected to ( over 2 years versus the 9 to 12 months the others use in the region ) results into a wine that is closer to a white grand cru Burgundy from a ripe or hot year . I have served this wine blind to many tasters , including some very famous ones and ALL guessed Burgundy ( Corton Charlemagne ). Mounir is quite a character ( he is my friend ) so maybe he does not allow wine critics to visit , I wouldn’t know . But if you taste for example the 2013 or 2019 now , you will be blown away .

I friend served this blind to our group a few years back. Everyone guessed Burgundy and yes it was indeed a good wine :slightly_smiling_face:

I found it very interesting, but maybe it is actually too reminiscent to a white Burgundy that it is just “another” one for some.

Anyways I would love to try it again.

It was the case in our household, until 2-3 years ago. Meanwhile I find the wines a bit too hefty and alcoholic.
A bottle of Condrieu/day?? Full respect.

Absolutely, fine wines. Their CdR Inopia bottling is somewhat similar and considerably cheaper.

Forgive me if I missed them, but two wines I didn’t see mentioned

I had my first bottle of FORADORI VIGNETI DELL DOLOMITI NOSIOLA “FONTANASANTA” (2021) and thought it was fantastic. At sub-$50, I’d buy it again in a heartbeat. I’ve heard it compared to white Burgundy, but I found it quite unique in it’s own right.

That’s a darn fine wine. Orange wine, although not one quite obvious at that. Nothing I’d confuse for a Burgundy, but a fine wine nevertheless.

Did it get a lot of skin contact? It’s color was certainly that of a white wine. Do you have any sense of how they age?

I’ve understood Foradori doesn’t make whites, only oranges. The Fontanasanta wines get about a week to two weeks of skin contact in tiñajas. The oldest I’ve had was about 8 yo and it had evolved beautifully, so I have no doubts of the aging potential of these wines.

Grange des Peres hasn’t been mentioned yet

I had my first a couple of months ago (a 2017) and have been on the hunt ever since.
Delicious with an incredible texture.
Kept me interested!

I’ve seen both mentioned already, but I’ll chime in anyway.
