More on Barolo 2010

Nothing really new or shocking in this report. But I thought I would pass it along. On one of the few 2010s that have arrived so far, the base Barolo did not have a price change. The single vineyard wines were up 15% over the 2009s. So they would be around $85. Not tasted yet.

Good timing Gary - I was reading this last night. Definitely looking to go buy Piemonte in 2010. Has anyone tried the Renato Ratti Barolo recently?

More 2010s are arriving. Vietti single vineyards, Frat. Alessandria and Brovia base Barolo. And some of top end La Spinetta.

Uggh. More gasoline on the fire! (And my budget is already shot)

So far I’ve picked up some Vietti Casglione, Elio Grasso both single vineyards, and just today Vajra Bricco Viole and base bottling.

I was fortunate enough to taste many of the traditional producers and I would caution anyone who likes to drink their wines young. While the wines have terrific promise, in general, the 2010s have significant tannins that will cause the wines to shut down and not be very enjoyable for quite a while, at least 10 years, probably 20. The fruit and acidity is there to give the wines depth and brightness, but the tannins will clamp down in a year or 2.
