More ads?

Anyone getting ad popups when clicking on a thread?
I started getting it since this morning.

none here. post a screenshot?

Yes.

Yes.

There is a solution to your problem…

Yep

None here, but Im GCC

Yeah the interstitial on click out is a terrible UX.

I kinda feel like non-GCC peeps complaining about ads is the equivalent of someone being mad that they got wet in the rain when they chose not to buy an umbrella

Is my question a complaint? I don’t see it that way. I want to know if the new popup ad that fills the entire screen is part of the site’s setup or my system got some sort of malware.

It looks like you haven’t paid up. If you contribute and have Grand Cru Cru status, you won’t get the ads.

Without a screen shot, it’s impossible to know if there’s some other issue.

it can easily be both, unfortunately. here are the domains being pulled when you load a page here:

Thank you. I’ve always felt the GCC and Berserker Business tariffs were well worth the expense.

If you’re not going to pony up for GCC, then you gotta try and play the best defense possible. There are new exploits daily. It could be Adware/Malware on your machine (assume Windows, most likely target rich environment) or a bad/misbehaving extension on your browser. Pick up a free malware removal program like BitDefender or Malwarebytes. While not perfect, it helps.

I haven’t used Windows at home in a decade, went Chromebook, and its been a much better experience. Not flawless, but a much better batting average. So if using Chrome which accounts for like 70% of today’s traffic, make sure all your security and privacy setting are correctly blocking pop-ups and redirects. Also block notifications.

Good luck, however its a battle of attrition. GCC would be your best bet though.

I’ve had the same full-screen ad appearing when using Chrome on my Android phone. Also tons of ads more - normally there were 1-2 per page, now between every single message.

No ads when using PC, however. Thanks to adblock.

Are you getting the ads? I am - and I am a Berserker Business . . .

I have experienced the new pop-up ads which only started in the past few days on a few other sites as well. Funny enough, the last one I received was when I clicked on the link to join the Grand Cru Cru. While I guess the new ads are good in that they reminded me that I needed to join the GCC, they are beyond annoying to the point where it spur me to boycott the firms whose ads are being shoved down my throat (that is, if I ever actually get an ad for a product or service that I might use - most seem to be way off mark).

Have to cover the costs of free loaders some way. Thousands of posts over two years means multiple interactions a day, every day. GCC contribution is worth it even just to ensure this site stays up and running long term. Real people run this site and have to put up with all the BS that goes along with it. GCC is a tiny price to pay, and no ads is quite nice.

Ads are back
