I’m just going to send some things to winebid

4 out, 0 in. Woulda been more except for a nasty chest and head cold that started on the 23rd, and is still producing unpleasantness.

Why?
To profit?
To make more space?
To get rid of things you no longer like?

I have been successful with #2 (temporarily!) and #3 at Winebid. Unless you have rare and highly sought after stuff, you won’t make much selling there. I recently sent a list of Oregon and Italian wines purchased pre-pandemic for appraisal. The reserve prices were below my purchase price by up to 50%. Add on seller’s commission and I was going to take a huge bath. Example: Purchased at $50, reserve at $25, commission at $10, $15 to me. I decided to send some to charity auction instead as that made me feel better about the whole thing.

2 and 3. I’m not gutting my collection. I just feel like my tastes for some things have shifted a bit and I want to get some of these things out of my house.
I also want to have less inventory overall since I don’t drink as much. I really just have wine to drink with dinner on weekends and open for special events and meals so I don’t need quite as much as I own.

Haha. The never-ending struggle

. . . Or the fine line between want and need

Just did a complete inventory. 1,226 to end the year. Was 1,400 about 2 years ago and had hoped to get down to no more than 1,100 by now. More buying than i should… and there were some wines i had not accounted for in the 2 year ago count. Next year at this time, 1,100 or less is the target. Fingers crossed

Today, I officially filled the last space in my locker. Time to go on a buying hiatus :anguished:

Still got a week left. Time for a sprint to finish line

Dav3,

Now that is classic.

After today, the drinking is done for the year. It’s time to look at some stats since last year and compare to this year and set new goals (yes I know it is a week early).

2025:

Total bottles estimated on 1/1/25 = 280
Actual bottles on 1/1/25 = 281 (1 bottle was not inventoried)

Original year end goal = 238
Actual year end bottles = 258
Actual Reduction = - 22
(Success in reduction, Fail in end goal)

Total bottles estimated to be purchased = 36
Actual bottles purchased = 57
(Fail)

Total estimated consumption = 78 bottles
Actual consumption = 80 bottles
(Success)

And now for 2026 Goals:

Starting bottle count = 258
Estimated end bottle count = 220

Estimated purchase = 12 bottles

Estimated consumption = 50 bottles

Gonna be a bad month, as I am grabbing more stuff from the crypt to take home.

I think you’ve addressed previously, but why not just account for the whole crypt since its “yours” but in different location? Because you havent done a full inventory yet and many wont make it to your home?

I’d argue drinking down the crypt is net reduction which would help offset any outside adds during the year.

Because there is no room for it.

Last status of 2025 and I am down 26 bottles compared to last month and down 294 bottles compared to a year ago. Not as big a reduction for the year as I wanted but at least the trend is clear so all in all quite satisfied with the effort in 2025.

Happy cellar reduction effort in 2026 to all :grinning:
