Monthly check-in: Cellar inventory reduction plan

Picking up allocations during our stay in Piemonte is not good for my month, ends with + 26 bottles for July. August will have to better … must be better …

A good month.

This month started out so promising. Drinking at a nice pace and buying nothing. Then Friends went out of town and I started traveling. Then offers started rolling in.

Definitely neglected this thread and it’s showing…

Started the year at 748 and just hit 783

There’s one more Napa allocation to get through and then limiting my purchases to whites and champagne for the rest of the year. No really…

Was away for 1/2 the month but then got sucked in by a Zachys sale.

BOUGHT: +26
CONSUMED: 20
NET: +6

SINCE I STARTED in March 2025: +7

IF I do an actual inventory of my wine, it shows signficantly less bottles than what I show in Cellar Tracker.
Does that count as a cellar inventory reduction plan?

Okay, back home in the U.S. and able to drink from my collection. My numbers for July 2025 are interesting:
July 2025
In: 84 bottles
Out: 32 bottles
Net: + 52.

Not good, but will be able to improve my numbers going forward if I can keep my buying at bay!

Looks like last time I posted here was Jan 1, 2023. I had a car accident on Jan 13, 2023 and spent the next 7 weeks in Harborview ICU. I survived, recovered, and seems like I celebrated by buying wine.

My CT tracked cellar in early 2023 was 890 bottles. Today it is 1581, almost 700 more. I was out of cellar space at ~800.

But since I decided to live, hopefully another few decades, I need to find a way to slim back into at least my normal cellar size.

2025 I have overall done “better”

2025 YTD
Purchases - 151 bottles (around 96 of those were BD16)
Consumed - 222

July 2025
Purchases - 12 mixed case from MTN/ART
Consumed - 8 slow wine month with 2+ weeks spent in Mexico drinking only cerveza.

Hopefully this reporting will help me do better through remainder of 2025. And avoid BD17.

Maureen is the final adjudicator for this question! I include “inventory” as a category in my monthly updates. Usually it means the bottle I went looking fo has been consumed but the inventory was not updated.

So yes you can!

Right. My count starts with what I have recorded in CT and if, when looking for something I realize it’s no longer there - or I showed three bottles but only have two - I “consume” it and record it as “missing or presumed drunk.”

July 2025 Count
Beginning Inventory 99
Bought +7
Drank -6
Ending Inventory 100

Well, it’s a ‘milestone’ for me that I’m up to 100 bottles now

I have consumed 44 bottles this year and purchased 10. Actually, I have only purchased 10 since last September. I have been trying to reduce the cellar for a while due to space and my wife has stopped drinking wine in the last year, so I just stopped buying for a while. Naturally, I found other things to spend the money on.

I knew negative was not going to happen in a month with a Bedrock release, but I was hoping for low single digits. Instead, +10 for July.
