Monterey/Carmel Restaurant Rec's

I know the usuals: Passionfish / Stoke’s Adobe / Fishwife.

Anything else worth mentioning? And that don’t mind us bringing wine?

Preferrably Monterey / Pacific Grove, but will look at Carmel.

Thanks for any info.

T-bag, in Pacific Grove, this place KILLS!!! The best breakfast experience we’ve ever had, bar none. I saw their lunch/dinner menu and almost changed all our plans to get there again.

Alberto’s in PG - http://www.albertospg.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

My wife’s Aunt is a local and recommended the place when we were there on our Honeymoon. We had big plans for Passionfish the night after our wedding, but ended up being hung-over and in no mood to raid their wine list. So we decided to carbo load Alberto’s and it was absolutely awesome. Very basic/traditional Italian - more on the comfort food side of things - but by far the best Italian food that I’ve had for years. The back story is that the owner/chef used to be a private chef for Sinatra back in the day. I can neither confirm or deny the rumor, but the food is fantastic.

We were pounding the San Pellegrino when we were there, so I’m not sure on wine friendliness… Totally non-tourist, in a stripmall next to a laundrymat - across the street from the Safeway in PG.

Thanks guys! Two places I’m not familiar with and will check out.

Appreciate it!

You coming up this way sometime soon?

June corporate retreat in Monterey. Not Scruz.

That’s close…

Cafe Rustica in Carmel Valley makes a very good wood fired pizza. Nice wine list and $20 corkage. The full dinner menu is nicely done as well. Outdoor seating too.

Thanks Nick, know Rustica well and love the place. Unfortunately, we need something within a cab ride (or walking) from downtown Monterey as we plan on drinking quite a bit.
I did say this was a business retreat…didn’t I?

Thanks again everyone for your input.

When we visit Pacific Grove we like Fandango. They have a nice wine list & menu & great service. I don’t remember what the BYOB chg. is

T-bone, it’s not worth bringing wine to Passionfish, as their prices are very, very agreeable, but beware that their online wine list is not updated too often so you’ll likely see a completely different wine list in the restaurant.

I also like Sardine Factory.

We discovered that many restaurants in that area keep odd hours, so don’t forget to call ahead!

I had one of the best meals I’ve ever had at Marinus at the Bernardus Lodge. Now, I did book the Chef’s table when I ate there so that certainly impacted my enjoyment. It’s quite the experience. And yes, you can bring in wine if you’d like.

i had a horrendous experience @ PF two summers ago and won’t go back but i know many swear by the place.

We went to Passionfish last year, so we’re looking for something new. Had fun though as we brought about a 6-pak of wines and shared with the staff.

We’re a bit of a loose and loud crowd, so Sardine Factory might not be the right spot for us, but I have had good meals there in the past.
