It’s an interesting analysis; as I’ve said in some other posts, the WHO data found almost all of the health risks to be associated with female breast cancer, while this analysis seems to show some cardiovascular benefit.
The main issue I have with the study is that it’s comparing a very specific subset of populations. People who have NEVER consumed alcohol and moderate drinkers. That gets rid of the bias from people who quit drinking because they needed a liver transplant or whatever, but I think a study comparing light to moderate drinkers would be more useful.
I am no scientist, and obviously enjoy drinking given one of my hobbies, but my sleep is materially affected by booze, and adverse effects on health from lack of quality sleep are pretty real. I can say that I feel much better and more rested and have better workouts when I am not drinking during the week than when I just have a couple of drinks. Whoop data (which is blind to when I’m drinking because I do not input booze data) backs that up pretty well. I also have zero desire to live to 100.
Sadly, most people are in public education, so that is somewhat inevitable. Let’s not forget we had a food pyramid only some years ago being taught to essentially all Americans.
Look on the bright side, he could have still posted that comment from inside of an Iron Lung, but those organizations have afforded him the ability to be selectively ignorant where it’s convenient and made it possible for him to do it from the comfort of his own couch.
