Miru/Tre Dita (Chicago) - Wine/Sake List Help

I am assisting with a family party at the St. Regis for 30 adults and have been tasked with coming up with a wine/sake plan. These lists are just so deep (Tre Dita) and so pricey (both), I’m a bit over my head. The dinner will be a mix of sushi and Japanese-style beef and seafood, but we can order wine from either restaurant. There is a high minimum spend, so we’re willing to entertain (get fleeced for?) almost anything.

WBers, please give me your gems. Rose, sparkling, white, red, and sake (any connoisseurs?). I’ll take 'em all. Apologies in advance for the annoying menu format. There is no direct link or PDF.

Miru List
Tre Dita List

The list at Tre Dita is expensive but quite interesting.

I’m not sure whether it’s a typo but that Terlano Nova Domus is at retail price. Never had this cuvée but it’s a great producer. I would beeline for that.

The Montenidoli Fiore, while not necessarily a bargain, is a fantastic wine.
2014 Vallana Gattinara - another solid underrated producer with a bit of age.
Venica & Venica is another producer that overdelivers. The Sauv Blanc will be excellent; I haven’t had any of their reds but I’d give the Merlot a try based on my track record with them.

Most of these are below $100; others may have more input at higher price levels.

They have 2012 Cristal at $320, so I’m expecting some typos.

Money we don’t spend is money lost, though I’m sure we can take bottles to go.

Don’t know sake well and am an Italy idiot, but thoughts on the rest

Miru

Champagne Leclerc Briant, “Brut Rosé” - I enjoy all his wines and I think this rose show complexity beyond its price point. Not boring at all.

Rare '08 is drinking great right now, but price is a little out there. In general these marks feel aggressive.

Cassis, Clos Sainte Magdeline, 2022 - this is great juice. slightly saline (it’s on literal coast in cassis), but balanced and charming

Other

Leclerc - again haven’t had a boring wine from here

FERRARI - people sleep on this producer, but I’m a fan.

BRUT CHAMPAGNE, LOUIS ROEDERER, “CRISTAL”, 2012 - as mentioend grab if not typo

BRUT CHAMPAGNE, CHARLES HIEDSIECK, “RÉSERVE” - had at suckling thing a couple weeks ago, also surprised to upside.

SICILIA, AZIENDA AGRICOLA COS, “IN PITHOS”, ZIBIBBO ET AL., 2021 - neat, little funky, opens beautifully

SICILIA, OCCHIPINTI, “SICCAGNO”, NERO D’AVOLA 2021 - this is good juice. Nero is very food friendly for me

Trento reds - people sleep on these, but I have had great ones. cooler climate, freasher, more acid driven, I’d get a rec and roll dice here

CERASUOLO DI VITTORIA RISERVA, OCCHIPINTI, NERO D’AVOLA & FRAPPATO, 2019 - I think Frappato needs more air, but with a quick decant would be lovely

hope dinner is great!

Not going to lie, I really thought some Berserkers would jump at the chance to tell someone how to spend their money! Thank you to those that chimed in! We narrowed it down to:

Sparkling:
Billecart-Salmon, Brut Rosé, 2010 $320 (Miru)
LOUIS ROEDERER, “CRISTAL”, 2012 $360 (Tre Dita) - Likely missing a 1 in front of the 3, so probably won’t be getting this.
BRUT FRANCIACORTA SATÈN, FERGHETTINA, 2018 $190 (Tre Dita)

White:
Sancerre, Domaine Vacheron, 2022 $160 (Miru)
Cassis, Clos Sainte Magdeline, 2022 $98 (Miru)
FIANO DI AVELLINO RISERVA, VILLA DIAMANTE, “CONGREGAZIONE”, 2020 $130 (Tre Dita)

Red:
BOLGHERI, GUADO AL MELO, “ATIS”, 2013 $290 (Tre Dita)
PAITIN, SORÌ PAITIN, 2010 $390 (Tre Dita)

Sake:
Chrysanthemum Meadow, Yamahai Diaginjo, Ishikawa $140
Soul of the Sensei, Junmai Daiginjo, Takatenjin, Shizuoka $160

I think the Sicily reds are as a whole interesting and fairly priced, hard to go wrong there. As for whites the Bruno Giacosa Roero Arneis jumped out as a good choice.

Are you mindful of price here? Looking for decent value on those lists or just our preferred bottles? Sorry if I’m daft but I read the OP twice but couldn’t tell.

No terribly, but mindful that there are 30 adults. I didn’t really look at much over $600.

2019 Gaja Sperss :wow:

Looks like 2012 Cristal is a $90 glass pour, so $360 is probably the price.

I think you’re right… which is surprising given the menu!

Yeah, if that price is right, clean them out. While Cristal isn’t my favorite, even from that list, the price makes it a whole lot more attractive.
