Minervois made by Burgundians

Two very nice wines.

  • 2009 Domaine Anne Gros & Jean-Paul Tollot Minervois Les Fontanilles - France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Minervois (6/16/2012)
A wine that has real depth and intensity but retains lovely elegance, balance ad the silkiest of textures. There’s a suggestion of Satsuma plum and plenty of your aniseed, liquorice type aromas and flavours going on. It has real flesh coupled with mouth-watering acidity that results in a wine of sensuality and thorough satisfaction. A wine of power, grace and harmony that should reward a decade+ of cellaring.
  • 2009 Domaine Anne Gros & Jean-Paul Tollot Minervois La Ciaude - France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Minervois (6/14/2012)
Very pure and fresh nose with berry and plum fruits, a little nutmeg and something ferrous. The palate is liquid velvet, so smooth and sensual with generosity of fruit and mouthwatering minerally acidity. Tannins are ripe and round, unobtrusive but defiantly there. I suspect this will age well, impeccably balanced wine!

Interesting!

I’ve had this range of wines twice, but unfortunately did not come away impressed.

I also think it is a big mistake to give them to people to taste in Vosne Romanée.

Best regards,
Alex R.

I had some very presentable Minervois wines when I began drinking wine attentively, about 20 years ago. Would be interesting to come back to them. Thanks.

What grape varieties are these wines made from?

Hi Ian,

I’m led to believe the Fontanilles is 20 year old Grenache, 20 year old Syrah, 45 year old Carignan and 40 year old Cinsault and the Ciaude is a blend of Syrah, Carignan and Grenache including some Carignan from 104 year old vines.

Best Regards
Jeremy

It doesn’t surprise me that Anne Gros makes serviceable Minervois, because the burgundies from that producer taste not untirely unlike serviceable Minervois.

Thanks, Jeremy. Will keep an eye out for local bottles.

Bam! Pow! Ouch!
