I just wish you could find good Red Burgundy under $30.

Don’t we all.
Cat nip.
Jean Fournier Cuvee St. Urbain Marsannay 2010, $23.95/bottle case price, excellent wine…my favorite wine in my collection.
Pernand-Vergelesses ‘Les Vergelesses’ Laleure-Piot 2010, $27.99/bottle from WTSO, very pleased with that deal. Delicious, delicate feminine Burg.
Mortet makes a killer Marsannay, too. Second night with the Potel SLB - who’d have thunk it’d be better on night two? Just stacked with fruit. I always scoff at the Vieilles Vignes designation as it reminds me of California ‘Reserve’ wines. But man, this stuff is full throttle.
Potel, not fashionable, but usually damn fine juice! Pre buyout drama of course, what year did Potel become not really Potel?
I want to say the last vintage was 2007??
I’m still waiting for my pre-arrival reds from Maison Bellene (I bet you can guess the merchant
) but had a stellar 2010 blanc from said Maison, I think it was village Puligny. A shade over $40 though.
I agree with you. This wine is just exquisite
Just tasted some Charles Audoin Marsannays which was awesome and well under $30 from the 2009 vintage. I also find that Bize’s bourgogne at $25 is very reliable and solid. Just to name two that I have enjoyed recently…
I was just going to recommend Audoin’s Marsannays in 2010. I bought about a mixed case (mostly the Clos du Roy) and have been going through a couple of those with excellent results.
I’ve had some Faiveley Mercurey 1er Myglands that I really liked. My 06s were
16.95 Euro, so
21.86 US Dollar
I’ve been drinking the 2010 Regis Bouvier Bourgogne en Montre Cul from Kermit Lynch. Delish at $27 here. Probably $17 in CA.
I take it this was really good. Neat. I love the purity of fruit of good under $30 Burgundies.
Has anyone had Potel’s wines post Potel? How are they?
I would!!! It’s “happened” to me to many times to be surprised…in fact, I’d expect it in a youngish wine from a great vintage, maybe any vintage. Seeing what these wines often have in reserve (ie, what they show the “next day” or thereafter) confirms my view that it is such a waste (for me
) to open them so early in their trajectories…whether Savigny, Chambolle or Chambertin.
I believe that most wines under 15-20…in red…either should be pop and pour, expecting them to shut down relatively quickly…or…with lots of aeration… Both run the risk that they will show best the next day…
I’ve also found this happen so many times with Dauvissat Chablis…and, at times, some Cote de Beaune wines…FWIW
Premier cru has the blowout sales for village wines every once in a while. I bought both the '09 Raphet and Hudelot Noellat ‘Chambolle Musigny’ for $23 per bottle. Hard to beat that for tasty house wine!
I’ve heard from some local retailers that the Domaine ways are way overpriced (even if the quality is fine), the Negoce stuff is reasonably priced, though I’ve only had the 2010 Bourgogne which is nice for $19/20.
I’ve always like Potel’s wines, they seem to represent great value for what’s in the bottle. A friend and I tasted the 1998 Potel Vosne Suchots at a restaurant, it needed a good 60 minutes in the decanter to unfurl into a beauty.
Killer wine and a great price.
Jean Marc Pillot Bourgogne Rouge Les Grandes Terres 2010.
My new house Burgundy. Really a cut above. Impressed me more than the Jerome Chezeaux Bourgogne Rouge 2010 (Galloni scored the Chezeaux 90 FWIW).
(Disclaimer, yes I do sell these, but for the sake of everyone knowing how hard it is for find good, drinking $22 Burgundy, it’s important. Both imported by Rosenthal.)
2005 Joseph Roty Bourgogne Pressonniers is delicious. $15 from Premier Cru back in the day.
