I’ll need some help from resident people to set up a Wednesday night get-together, but hope we can figure something out. Would love to see old friends/meet new ones on this trip if I can. Hope people are free to join. Many thanks in advance!

There is no way i’ll be able to do three of these in a row… but hope you fill it up!\
Mike.
I’m available on November 20.

Should be able to join
We’re all set for North Square in Greenwich Village at 6:00.
Looking forward to it! I may be 15 minutes or so late – coming from way uptown.
Nice seeing Evan and Steven again (DiFara’s regulars).
I’m so happy that my friend Mike arranged this intimate dinner. It’s been a while since Toron (as they say). Looking forward to the fall 2026 event in your hometown.
Far be it from me to post notes on the wines. I’ll leave that to Mike.
The Egly-Ouriet Brut Rose GC was something I could have parked with all night. An exceptional Champagne.
The 2019 Didier Dagueneau Silex was a straw color, smooth and graceful. My last bottle was in Albany with Ken V.
I enjoyed the 1992 Philip Tongi Napa Cab.
The 2012 RBS BTK Schrader had a dry cork, but Evan got it out with an Ah-So. I decanted this at North Square. My first taste was after 90 minutes. This is still a young wine that you can drink now, but I’d hold it if you have it in your cellar. Smooth, with some heat.
I let the others comment on the other wines we drank.
See you all next time.
I purchased a bottle at Zachy’s. I really enjoyed this last night.
Nice! I’m glad it left an impression – I love that champagne.
And, some brief impressions of my own on the wines:
The Egly-Ouriet Rose (7/2014 disgorgement) was consistent with my past experiences with this wine and disgorgement. It showed well throughout the meal despite its somewhat copper color. Red fruit and cream with some autolytic character. A marmalade note came out on the nose with time open.
The Miani Zitelle (2021, I believe) and Silex (2019, I think) were an interesting side by side. Both a treat to drink, but this pairing really highlighted the power of the Miani, particularly on the nose. Not a shy wine with more exotic fruit (passionfruit, dragonfruit, lychee) than the Silex.
The next side-by-side of a 1990 Gruaud Larose and 1992 Togni was similarly engaging. While the Togni showed its age more than the Gruaud Larose in my view, the Togni was within the same ballpark as past bottles I’ve had of this wine. The Togni had a minty/eucalyptus note on the nose which I love, plum fruit, black tea, and coffee. The Gruaud Larose in comparison had a somewhat smokey, dark-fruited, funky nose with plenty of fruit on the palate.
The 2012 Schrader RBS To Kalon was big and imposing following the previous flight. Unsurprisingly, it showed much younger, with oak on the nose. Super rich with a sweet, blue-fruited profile, this did show a little bit of heat. I still got some tannins that seemed to operate on a different plane from the palate otherwise – might need some more time to come together.
The 2018 Dirty & Rowdy Evangelho shook things up, and was a good representation of the house style. Smelling of raspberries and cream (or a creamsicle), with energetic, candied red fruit on the palate. So ebullient – I may have compared this to a golden retriever.
Great night! Thanks, Mike, for bringing this group together; it was a lot of fun.
Thanks so much again, guys. Formal TNs are now up
I picked up a bottle at Zachy’s today. This disgorgement date was 2023. Thoughts on how long to lay this down Evan_K?
Thanks.
Dan
I haven’t had that disgorgement, but would expect that it could lay down for 5 years at least. Folks are pretty good about entering disgorgement dates when logging tasting notes on CellarTracker for this wine, so I’d keep an eye on those, but generally feel these need a little time. There’s also been some discussion in the Champagne thread about another disgorgement you might find interesting!
