Melisse and Juju-ya

Dinner the last two nights was really amazing. First was Melisse in Santa Monica, a two star Michelin and worth both stars. Wonderful service, especially with the wine, and great dishes. A couple of standouts were the egg caviar dish - soft boiled egg layered with cauliflower puree and caviar. Very sensual and delicious. Another great dish was the white truffle risotto with mascarpone cream foam. And the partridge was melt in your mouth delicious. I bought an NV Paul Bara off the list which was excellent and brought a 2006 Leflaive Chevalier Montrachet which was less than spectacular - botrytis and not a lot of pine to this. But I also brought a great 2000 Rousseau Chambertin which paired perfectly with a great partridge dish.
A great night!

Tonight’s dinner was at Juju-ya in Palos Verdes. Finally a restaurant that knows what it is doing. 6 courses of Asian influenced seafood which complimented our wines, and then a beef and a dessert of several different bites. We will be definitely going back for another night here.

The wines we had tonight were 2002 Bollinger Rose, 2004 Bernard Morey Puligny Truffiere, 2005 Boillot Puligny Mouchere, 2007 Boillot Mouchere, 2004 Boillot Corton Charlemagne, 1999 Armand Pommard Clos des Epeneaux, 1999 Gaunoux Pommard Epenots, 1999 d’Angerville Volnay Champans, 1999 Groffier Bonnes Mares, 1999 Ponsot Clos de la Roche, 2003 Clos de Tart, 2009 Rieussec. All the wines showed very well with the white Burgundies all displaying flavors and tastes that everyone agreed were first rate. The Ponsot was probably the red of the evening, with the Clos de Tart being the flashy showy wine that faded a bit in the end. Another great night with the wine group. If you are in the Palos Verdes area I suggest a night at this restaurant - the crab spring roll and the fried oyster are as good as it gets.

Thanks Jerry. I have been thinking of trying Juju-ya for quite a while and have not yet been. Have to get there soon.

Cheers!
