May 2025 visit to G Rinaldi

Carlotto hosted us. It was good to be back in th cantina and see and feel the history here.

  • 2023 Giuseppe Rinaldi Barbera d'Alba - Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Barbera d'Alba (5/7/2025)
    With Carlotta

Fresh pure barbera fruit violet. Mid weighted and fresh. Cool fruit for tear. Excellent acidity. Very good balance. Cool spice notes on back end. Outstanding (90 points)
  • 2023 Giuseppe Rinaldi Freisa Langhe - Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Langhe DOC (5/7/2025)
    With Carlotta

Tar. Dark berry fruit. Little iron. Structured iron tar violet. Midweighted and good finesse for freisa. Little firm greenish tannins. Very good., but not a strong showing for this bottling.
  • 2023 Giuseppe Rinaldi Nebbiolo Langhe - Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Langhe DOC (5/7/2025)
    With Carlotta

Cool Nebbiolo fruit with a little savory cured meat, tar and iron.Midweighte and graceful with nice inner mouth perfume and balsam. Pure unadulterated nebbiolo fruit and good balancing acidity. Graceful and less is more. Honest LN not a bay Barolo. Very good. (89 points)
  • 2021 Giuseppe Rinaldi Barolo Tre Tine - Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo (5/7/2025)
    With Carlotta

An open nose with Cannubi perfume, roses and redder Nebbiolo fruit. This draws you in and has some nuance. Midweighted and sapid yet fresh on the plate with beautiful sense of clarity with more rose balsam. Quite long on the back end with tar, balsam and spice. Weightless power. Elegant. (95 points)
  • 2021 Giuseppe Rinaldi Barolo Brunate - Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo (5/7/2025)
    With Carlotta

A haunting nose with cooler and deeper fruit, violet and rose, tar, balsam. powerful yet fleeting. On the plate, there’s terrific clarity depth. Power without weight. Iron fist in a velvet glove type depth with terrific perfume. Harmony. Wow. Ripe firm tannins. Very long. Fleeting subtlety. A great Brunate. (98 points)
  • 2021 Giuseppe Rinaldi Barolo Bussia - Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo (5/7/2025)
    With Carlotta

Savory and meatier than the other tow Baroli with nettle, and darker nebbiolo fruit. There’s some balsam and dried green herbs as well. More overtly powerful than the two others. It’s structured, vertical, brooding, relatively dense and sapid. with firm, ripe tannins. It’s less charming but more powerful. Still graceful but less so than the other bottlings. Quite long on the back end. In general, I do not adore Bussia in general, but if you do, you will probably like this a lot more than I. (94 points)
